Health Care Insurance Toolkit

Whether you are pre- or post-treatment or a watch and wait patient, ANA understands that your health insurance coverage, or the lack of coverage, will be a primary factor in your ability to obtain the best treatment options to guarantee the best results.

You are facing some of the most serious decisions of your life and ANA realizes insurance benefits and treatment options are overwhelming challenges to many AN patients. We are here to offer some suggestions as you navigate your way through the obstacles that lie ahead.

Affordable Care Act
The United States government requires all individuals to obtain health care insurance or pay a penalty. If you do not have private health insurance, apply for coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace provided by the Affordable Care Act at www.healthcare.gov.

When you fill out a Marketplace application, you may learn that you qualify for coverage through Medicaid. Medicaid provides free or low-cost health coverage to some low-income people, families and children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with disabilities. The program is run jointly by federal and state governments, and details vary somewhat between states. You may qualify for Medicaid based on your household size, income, and other factors, like age and disability. Contact the Medicaid office of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services at www.medicaid.gov.
