I nominate Brendalu as the official ship de-wrinkler.

Just don't get her mad at you or you'll wind up with a little too much starch in your shorts!   :o

This ship is going to have the best pressed sails around!

Ok, I'll iron the ruffles.  Do any of you remember hanging clothes on the line to dry and then sprinkling them with water and rolling them up and putting them in the refrigerator until you were ready to iron them.  I used to use starch on everything I ironed.  I used to iron sheets and pillow cases too.  Now I still iron the pillow cases but only iron the top hem on the sheets.  I think I must be old! lol

Oh ya....I remember that. Every thing smelled so good off the line. Maybe the sails smell good, too and we can snuggle up to them after a day of pirating.

Hi,

Jan mentioned the water sprinkling on the clothes a few posts back also.  I remember somebody using a small pop bottle that had a top on it that was used for clothes sprinkling.  It was like a little shower head.  That's actually a very nice way of getting all the wrinkles out of something.  I got some nice high thread count cotten pillow cases that looked terrible after the dryer and regular ironing with the steam iron wasn't getting that snappy, clean look I wanted and  I remembered the water and I now have a spray bottle for that.  But, I don't iron them much anymore, either!  (just a lazy wench, I guess)  I'm not sure why the refrigerator, unless it just kept them damp and not dry out until Mother could get to them.  Probably all of this developed before the steam iron became popular.  Of course, ya gotta be careful if you try this and not scorch your clothes.  Easier to do with the water, I think.

I wish I had a clothes line somewhere so that I could hang out some things to dry in the sun.  We've got so many birds around here that I'd probably end up with a real mess on the clothes.   Too bad, because everyone is right about how great laundry smells after it's been out in the sun.  If that smell doesn't remind people of the "good old days", I don't know what will!

So, coffee percolating on the stove, apple cinnamon something baking in the oven, Mama in the corner ironing the freshly brought in clothes off of the line, Papa reading his paper  and the old Golden Retriever lying on the floor near Papa's feet, and outside the sounds of a couple of children playing hide and seek and maybe the bark of the younger dog running after the kids.  How Norman Rockwell is that?  And you notice the only one working is Mama!!  Even in my idyllic scene, the poor thing is working her fingers to the bone!  ;) ;)

Check back in with ya all later.  Have a great weekend.

I dry clothes and sheets on the line all the time when the weather is warm enough.  I think I'm the only one in the neighborhood, who does, but I love the way clothes and especially sheets smell after they've been dried outside.

I decided a long time ago that when I die, I want the clothes I'm buried in to be line dried.  I know it's strange - it's not like I'll be able to smell anything at that point in my life - or death, as the case may be  ;)

Guess I'll have to make sure I die in nice weather, or my burial clothes will have ice on them  :D

Oh Laz,

I love seeing a man in a crisp, pressed dress shirt......especially if it's my good looking husband or one of my handsome sons.  Actually I just finished ironing (lightly starched) a dress shirt for my oldest son.  He's got a decent job for the summer in the planning dept @ city hall which could lead to a permanent position.  He just graduated from college in urban planning.

Proud momma here!

P.S.  Just send me your ironing on the next voyage with Capt Deb :D

I still iron, cannot seem to wear cloths out of the dryer.

I also remember helping my grandmother ringing out the cloths in her old washer then hanging the cloths on the cloth line when I was young.

Well, Laz, are the white coats crisply pressed!?   Don't want the men with the butterfly nets coming after me with wrinkly white coats.  Tsk, tsk.  Wouldn't do at all.
