Swollen
« on: September 12, 2008, 07:52:51 am »
This morning I woke up with my eye (left one where I got in the weight) swollen and red, can only see color and shadows, from it ......... I called my optomologist and he told me to come in on Monday @ 9:15am.

Should I be worried?

Im currently using Optive Lubricant Eye drops,Artificial tears and a prescriptive paste to be applied before bedtime

Lisa~
I guess if the Dr. isn't more worried then I would try not to be.  I would feel better if he'd said to come in today!!  I think I would just keep even more "stuff" in it over the weekend.  Is any of it a new thing or have you been using this routine the whole time??  You might try a cold compress (ONLY if you can shut you eye all the way) to get the swelling to go down - I am certainly not a Dr., but cold/cool reduces swelling.  Keep us posted...

hi lisa, how long have you had the weight is it a gold one? this happened to me 20 months post op and my consultant says i might have been bitten by something Fly etc) he gave me strong antihistamines (for allergys) and it cleared up straight away, if you have not had it long you may have a allergy to it. Maybe try taking a antihistamine.

Hi Lisa:  I had similar problem but mine was due to allergy to the gold weight & the redness/swelling stayed from the time of surgery on.
This is different b/c you haven't had this problem since Nov. 07.

When I 1st went to my opthalmologist c/o of those symptoms,  he had me do hotpacks to the lid & the swelling went down.  (instead of cold which is also what I thought like K).

Hope all goes well Monday.

Always good thoughts,  Nancy

I went in to see my optomologist today and he said that I have an ulcer due to excessive dry eye, because the weight was not heavy enough and the blurriness and swelling was caused by the perservatives in the artificial tears, so he gave me some refresh for my eye I smiled (half - smiled) because I remembered from this forum someone used that and I immediately thought "this is some good stuff".......lol  I gotta put in 2 drops 6 times a day and I go back on Wednesday, and there I originally thought I was going blind, in total relief, will keep everyone posted

Lisa~
Are you using Refresh PM at night too?  It works REALLY well...before I got my weight (or anytime it gets super red) I used it 24/7...

Hi Lisa,  I'm not able to use drops, they're just not strong enough to keep my eye lubricated.  I use Refresh PM lubricant every few hours, & a moisturizing eye bubble at night.    My vision is always somewhat blurry, but I've learned to deal with it (like everything we all learn to deal with).

Keep us informed on how things are looking Wed. after your doc appt.

That depends -- is it a medication or a lubricant? He may want to be sure your eye gets moisture many times during the day.
