Thanks Cindy for the updates, and so glad to hear it isn't meningitis.
I was impressed though that she was walking the hall and not falling over :o so her balance seems to be doing ok!

Just got to talk to Sue herself on the phone a bit ago...she sounded good, but will be in the hospital for 3 more days.  Turns out she does have an infection, though not meningitis.  They tell her it's an infection related to/due to pneumonia (?)  She must stay to complete the course of antibiotics.  Has been very rough due to the infection - she had to be restrained/strapped into the bed as she was so out of it (dementia type stuff, apparently).  Has had to endure many pokes and prods, including shots in the stomach :-[

Other than that, the AN related issues are some facial weakness and the normal things that come along with that.  The docs tell her it is temporary so, I assume the facial nerve was only stressed.  She is relying on a walker at the moment, but can get around. 

I will let her give you a full report when she returns to the forum...hopefully won't be too long for her.

Thanks for that update, Cindy.  I'm glad to learn that Sue is going to be O.K. and that her recovery seems to be back on track.

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

1.5 cm tumor left on 7 nerve.  Gamma knife 1-2013

Diagnosed Nov 08  w/ 14x13x14mm left AN. Translab on 9/30/10 w/ Dr's Mattox & Olson at Emory University Hosp. in Atlanta.  Post surgery complications were meningitis & pneumonia. Hospitalized for 12 days, zero memory for the first 5.

Trans-Lab and Retro-sigmoid at MCV on 2/12/2010.

Removed 90-95% in a 32 hour surgery. Two weeks in ICU.  SSD Left.

You are home and that is good so just take it easy. Do yo have someone who can help you and wait on you hand and foot?

One day at a time, things will hopefully get better.' Fluids if you have no appetite are important. Eat what sounds good, even it if it ice cream shakes, jello, whatever.

Just sleep/rest/as much as possible, and walk as well as you can. Peaceful music on CD's is also helpful or books on tape to take your mind off of things.

It is  crucial to not to  try to do anything, especially bending over, for now. Just let yourself be, OK?

Hi Sue,
Please know that I am thinking about you, try to rest as much as possible especially since you have just come home.  This is a very emotional journey and you need to let yourself feel it.  I was also very emotional for many months after my surgery, what you are going through is completely normal.

feelling better/ did have meningitis and pneumonia / lost 5 days time, woke up worried I had missed surgery & desperate to tell the Dr's I might miss surgery LOL/ tied down for 2 days then sent to private room on neuro floor/ still trying to put time in order with help of family, friends who visited on my journey through madness and back/ truly horrifying /still need your prayers
