3 1/2 months post op- NORMAL?
« on: March 24, 2006, 10:38:27 pm »
I wanted to know when do I start to feel like me again? I have a lazy eye, partially deaf in ear from surgery and have numbness on entire left side of body and right side of face- the facial paralysis has diminished 99 percent but I still go to therapy for balance etc. Are these issues normal? :-\

Sodagal unf they sound pretty normal depending on the size, location and extent of your surgery.  The entire left side of your body is numb?  I have left sided facial numbness (my an was on the left).  I'm still going to therapy to try to increase my fatigue from the vestibular imbalance.  I'm 7 mos post op yesterday.  I still do not feel like me but I do feel better than I did at 3 mos out.  Are you doing any eye exercises for your lazy eye?

You'll get sick of hearing but..Hang in there it does get better its just very slow!
I just read you're a new mommy.  Congrats!  You've got a lot on your plate with a new baby and post surgery!

You'll find we're a friendly bunch just watch out for the wenches!  ;D

Sodagal,

You'll be right mate! keep practicing the walking and within days, you'll be able to walk the plank without falling off the sides.

Oh yeah, you'll feel a lot better soon.  I'm 4 months post op and I can walk pretty much all by myself.  Just short term memory I'm dealing w/ now. Just keep walking (if tolerable) and in time you'll feel a lot better.

Hey Sodagal!
If you go to the profiles section and go to modify profile and then fo "forum profile info"--down where it says "signature" you can enter in your type of treatment, where, docs, and tumor size, and anything else you want--it gives members a frame of reference on you when you post.  Welcome to our exclusive club.  I'm 3 years post-op.  You will get a lot of your balance back, but you have to fight for it! I'm still fighting for mine!  It takes a long time to recover from this surgery and folks recover at amazingly different rates.

Hang in there!

Just to give everyone a little more detail- my whole left side of my body feels asleep- basically tingly and numb-WEIRD- doc says it could go away in 6 months post op but ya never know-  I have a lazy eye in which I wear neat eyepatches rotating eyes each day- people get cool bandaids so I bought so neat disposable eyepatches to wear- I figure if people are going to point and talk about you-  give them something neat to talk about!!! HUMOR HEALS!!!  I use no equiptment now but did come home in a wheelchair etc. so I do know how hard that is- I just wanty my body back!! I would really like to drive too but haven't since November from tumor and now eye! Hopefully soon! Thanks to all for writing- it really helps to feel you are NOT alone in the world when it comes to these weird things that happen!!!

Sodagal,

I can't chime in about post-op situations, but I can welcome you and send you wishes for feeling better MUCH sooner than later.... I know we all tire from hearing it, but "...in time".... it really is what it will take. Hang tough, give your little one a pinch on the cheek from me and um...since I'm cruise director on this fun ship, please let me be ... heck, definately NOT the first, to say welcome aboard.  We're all here for you, much more than you know.

Be well and look forward to hearing more updates on your recovery.
