Marci -

it will be an honor to attend your 21st birthday party.  I'd tell you I'll bring you a Steve original, but I see you already have one  ;D

DHM -

I'm thinking you'll have to wear your red hat and your disguise to the symposium or we won't recognize you  ;)  Glad you'll be able to attend.

I think that we are going to share a cab with Phyl from the airport as our flights arrive at the same time (2 totally different carriers!) - I believe that we land right around 3... ;D

Very cool, Kay.

If you can get Lori to fly in about the same time, you guys can all share a limo.  Believe it or not, that might be a cheaper option than a cab.

Note to Kate:

What's the scoop on Mary Poppins?  Will it still be around during the Symposium?  Musicals aren't my idea of a good time - my daughter and I actually dosed off during the last part of Wicked  ::) - but I know lots of people I work with are very excited about Mary Poppins.  If it's still here in August, maybe you can post a link for those interested.

Kate,
I think a post-banquet get-together would be great. I'll leave it to the Chicago natives to choose location.  I'm easy. And no presents.  Just everyone's presence (including mine!) is gift enough.

Going to the top of the Hancock for a drink in the 95th (basically top of the Hancock) would be great if it is a clear night.  (subdued atmosphere)  Something absolutely gregarious is the dueling pianos at Howl at the Moon.   It's your 50th....

Marci~
It's your pick, but I think this group would be ANYTHING but "subdued"!!  ;D  PLUS, I LOVE dueling pianos and singing along at the top of my lungs where it doesn't matter how I sound!!  ;)  Seriously, we in for whatever!

I vote for gregarious and not subdued.  I'll leave that for another birthday, like 80th....

You've got it Marci...It's on our AN Chicago Calendar ;)

When reviewing our weekend schedule it appears that we have the following times open:

Thursday afternoon for early arrivers
Thursday evening
Friday after the roundtable with a chance of getting out early
Saturday after the gala banquet:  Howl at the Moon to celebrate Marci's 39th (ergh.. isn't that the age George Burns always used..who's counting anyway) birthday
Sunday (after the brunch and for those with later flights)

The Signature Lounge on 95th will get people to the top of the Hancock and kill two birds with one stone.  95 floors up is up there :)
So subdued with our group would be anything but boring and would still be fun!!!!  8) It will also allow conversation...Maybe this can be scheduled on Friday ... unless there is fog :(  http://www.signatureroom.com/lounge/default.cfm?PID=15  (open until 1:30 am)

Howl at the Moon is gregarious because quite frankly the dueling pianos can get rancourous with their language. For example, they might have the audience join in to the song "You've picked a fine time to leave me Lucille" and insert very unlady like names for the audience to shout back.  Here are some links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTtSbBkbkJQ (it's showtime--the start of the show) or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5CjiyXNobs&feature=related  or  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZilghosNKI (example of language)  The atmoshpere will prevent alot of conversation as it is noisy!!!  Here is the official website..http://www.howlatthemoon.com/the-show

It is just two different atmospheres and there is time for both over the weekend giving you the total Chicago experience.

My Michigan daughter went to Mary Poppins last weekend when her and a friend came for the weekend.         She said it was very good.         Also good was the Harry Potter exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry.   I asked her how long it was going to be there and she never emailed back about that.                                              Looks like many are not going to get to do much sightseeing with just coming for the weekend.           We will be but haven't figured it out yet.

Harry Potter will still be there; it runs through Sep 27.
Facial nerve hemangioma. Probable dx 7/2008 confirmed 4/2009. Combo middle fossa and translab to remove the blood vessel malformation and snip ruined hearing and balance nerves by Drs. House and Brackmann @ House 6/2009. Doing great!

Howl at the Moon sounds great!!

It is open until 3 am :)  There are awesome fireworks every Saturday night at 10:15, so we might want to start off the birthday celebration with a "bang".

I've contacted Howl at the Moon to find out about reserving a table or two as that is the weekend of the Air and Water Show.  I want to make sure we have a few anchor activities booked.

There is a fee to reserve at Howl, so I am trying to find out the details relative to seating times  and costs etc. I will let you know what the particulars are afterword so that we reserve tables for those wanting to attend with the group.

I was thinking that seating in the "40's" section might be okay..Others thoughts?
http://www.howlatthemoon.com/locations/location-chicago  Scroll down to the table reservations menu. and then on the "map" link.
