Does massaging the paralyzed side of the face work?

I remembered when I was doing speech therapy, she would press up on my cheek bone for 30 secs then release it over a 30 min period 3 times a week............Now that Im home I have a prvt caregiver, who comes in everyday, so I just started with the massage technique...

Think that will help or am I wasting my time ???

27Lisa,

I don't know if you've seen this video about Renee Reuzunaar called "Truth."  She's a model from New York who had a very large AN tumor removed.  Her story is one of inspiration.

I included the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pQ7RAeHYew

Just a quick note - I do self-massage on my face (as directed by a facial/speech therapist I saw after surgery).  Not only does it help with pain, but I believe it is also helping me in slowly getting some movement back in my face.

I also bought a small massaging device called a Z-Vibe (I think Eve, Jerseygirl, may also have used this).  If you do a google search, you'll find this.  I use it every night over the numb side of my face. Again, recommended by facial therapist.

I did also speak to my neurotologist who said that massage is great, as are warm compresses.

Good luck!
