"Doc does brain surgery with DIY drill"
« on: March 20, 2008, 12:52:46 pm »
My sister sent me this since she and I are still talking about the drill that my doc used for my BAHA surgery.  Thankfully, in my case, it wasn't one that just came off the shelf  ;D  I can relate to the local anesthestic though.

Many thanks to Lorenzo, who helped me create this link.

Wish I lived in the UK so I could see the documentary.

Hi Jan,

Oh my Goodness!  That article is amazing!!
It sounds like he saved her life!  I can't believe she was awake through the whole thing.   :o
I would have probably had a heart attach right there, forget about the brain surgery :o

Yes, and if the drills held a big enough charge to get the whole job done, we couldn't hold them up.

This story is amazing.

I had heart failure when I saw the drill listed on the papers I had to sign when I was going to have my surgery.  I told them the less I knew about what they were going to use, the happier I would be.  It had a huge drill bit!  Yuck!!!

Oh, I hope my husband doesn't hear about this - he'll want to start performing surgeries in the garage!  Lucky for his potential patients though, he  has a backup battery for his drill.

All I can say is Thank God for anaesthesia.

What I found most interesting was the part that said when the drill "died" he continued the surgery by hand.  Just what exactly does that mean  ???

BTW Lori, let us know when your husband is open for business  LOL

I've been thinking alot about this doctor and this procedure.   Anyone in the UK who could watch it when it airs on TV and let us know more details  ???

Any chance it will come to American TV?
