What does your tinnitus sound like?
« on: February 10, 2007, 02:57:56 pm »
Does anyone have a zapping or buzzing tinnitus?  I always have a high pitched roar in the background but now have acquired an occasional zapping or buzzing sound.  Anyone else?????

Thanks,
Jen

It almost sounds like a bee or fly near my ear.

Hi Jen:

Before surgery, my tinnitus was many, many different sounds.  Tons of electrical sounding sounds, crickets, whine etc...
After a post op period of six months or so, it has mellowed to one continuous eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee which only changes pitch when I move my eyes to the side.  If I am in a very loud setting, the eeeeeeeeeeeeee goes up to EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.   ;D

Mine is outrageous, when I listen to it.  I try not to describe it or listen to it.  My plan is to ignore "it" and "it" might get discouraged and be quiet! ;D  Really, most of the time I am able to block it out.  When things get very hectic and too many tasks are due at once, then the T kicks in.  To fix T I take a short eye nap.  "Rest my eyes", as Grandma used to say.

I switch back and forth between having a bee hive in my head to the holiday bell ringers. Currently it's bee hive season >:(  I also experienced what sounds like a hovering helicopter.   At least I'm not hearing voices LOL

The bee hive sounds like mine, too...Except when I'm in the car, or in the bathroom with the fan on...then I get a plink, plunk, plink off key guitar kind of noise. I suppose it's caused by vibrations.  It varies in intensity.  I hate it. :(

I prefer to think of mine as a gentle stream barbling away, with the occasional rustling leaves in the wind. Then again, at tiems it jsut sound like an electrical short, but without the blue smoke!  :)

It changes, sometimes I also get the rythmic sound of wosh wosh wosh... But mostly, I jsut ignored it, learned to do that over the years! Now, I'm not aware of it unless I lsiten.

Hi Everyone

On top of the basic and constant white noise there are many variations joining in at random . There is the burglar alarm ,
the bees ,the running tap as well as a heavy whooshing sound every now and then. Luckily they do all not perform  at once since
if they did I would have been carted off in a straightjacket long ago . As it is I somehow manage to ingnore it all and only notice it at night when it is very quiet .

I think we should produce a recording and perform live in concert! Sounds a bit like John Cage at work in our brains!

Whenever I get a new sound, I amuse myself by trying to think up the most flamboyant description for it...
Recent examples are:

Flamenco dancing on a carpet  (dull but rhythmic)
Astor Piazzolla on sedatives (pops and squeaks)
flocks of hummingbirds
a skittery mouse on waxed bare boards
the slither of a snake on wet grass (strictly from imagination)

HI Caryl!

:)  Those descriptions are all worth reording for a Tinnitus Manual! I frogot the cicadas. Now I KNOW why Van Gogh cut his ear off! Only thing is, he didn't know it wouldn't help!

I usually hear what sounds like a seashell held to your ear. Sometimes I hear a faint tuning fork, but only recently heard the buzzing sound I could have a fly flew right into my ear :o
