Earache
« on: October 10, 2021, 01:02:17 am »
It seems that earache is rare for AN from what I have read. However this was my only presenting symptom and three years out after CK this still bothers me during the night (cant sleep on that side and still get stabbing ear pains since my vaccine 5 months agao)  I dont really have tinnitus and some hearing loss - not that noticeable to me. Does anyone else get ear pain- in ear and in front of ear, back of ear and sometimes eye? And if so how do you treat it? I just had year 3 MRI and all going well stable no changes despite the ear pain. So thats good! I have found that lemon balm tincture a few times a day is incredible for me- nerve pain and sleep (I take with melatonin).

Hi Michele,

I had CK in 2018-April and I am having the same kind of issues you are with ear pain. If I sleep on my AN side at night, I wake with ear pain for hours. My pain is usually behind my ear and it is also tender to touch. At times, the inside of my ear hurts also. I try to sleep on my non-AN side, but I tend to roll over during the night to my AN side. I have found that a heating pad or a hot shower really helps to reduce the ear pain. I do have bouts of tinnitus in my AN ear, and I have single sided deafness on that side also. Best of luck.

Hey Gary -thank you for responding! I guess its trigeminal. I would be worried but I had this before treatment and mine shrank after CK. My location is close to trigeminal. I can tell you that melatonin has sorted my tinnitus to nothing (I take 2 mg compounded troches at bedtime). Also I shape 3 pillows like a V and one between knees to better align posture which kind of helps. I had Pfizer a week ago and no side effects except sore arm and I think this twinge a bit worse during night. My specialist thinks its to do with facial nerve irritation - especially when I put pressure lying on that side. Maybe magnesium will help or deep heat behind ear! I do not have this in the day so I reckon its pressure. Really annoying as it wakes me up.  1 mg valium before bed also helps with the melatonin or half a panadol- I am not keen to take this every night but if I do wake up and cant get back to sleep I may do that occasionally. Valium is a muscle relaxant. Do you still take vitamin B? I ask as I started Biotin and it seemed to help so does Boswellia, Like you I believe in ginger - I have ginger every day, I also take Bromelain. Did you have any side effects after Vaxx relating to your AN trigeminal pain? I havent yet had second one- I live in Perth Australia and no Covid here - we had short supply of vaxx. I am a bit anxious re second as someone posted he had hearing loss...anyways feel free to PM me.

I haven’t had surgery yet (next month) but I’ve been getting earaches since before my tumor was diagnosed. Idk if it’s definitely related, of course, but they’ve only been on that side and my primary care doctor never found anything wrong with my ears when it was happening. It only happens sporadically and only for a few minutes to a few hours at a time so I don’t do anything other than take an aspirin for it. I have wondered if other people have noticed this as a symptom though. It’s different from the earache I’ve felt when I’ve had an ear infection. This is deeper and more ache-y.

Yes, I have an earache but not all the time like others.
It is usually but not always in the evening when I am watching TV or reading

Sometimes it is worse when I am using my hearing aides,; I wonder if the a/n is still growing . My last MRI in October showed it did grow After my CK in April. The Dr told me that is "normal"  yet I thought it was supposed to shrink the a/n

I was going to call the radiologist,  now everyone has answered my question

Thanks!

I also have occasional earaches in my AN-side ear.  I stopped mentioning it to my ENT doctor because he says it's not a symptom of AN and that it must be viral.  If it's viral, it sure is strange because the earache doesn't last long and comes every once in a while and I don't seem to have any other symptoms of a virus.  So, it does my heart good to see that I am not the only one who has it.  I still have not figured out what triggers it.  But since the earaches don't last long and since they come only occasionally, I have not been too concerned with them.  Maybe I should be?
Burning Tongue, Loss of Hearing & Balance, and Tinnitus led to MRI. Very small AN found on 11/23/2021
While watching and waiting, lost significant hearing. WRS now at 12% (down from 100%). Was fitted with CROS system on 3/7/22.  Stable MRI on 7/29/22
No treatment yet.

donjehle,
So glad you found the forum, I had similar where some symptoms are "NOT" symptoms....it is great to be in a group with people going through it together.  I too have ear ache and sometime TMJ on the AN side.

I am finding that lemon balm tincture and antihistamine and melatonin is helping me...I think I had a lot more neuro inflammation after my vx and at 5 months its settling down. I had shocking eye and ear neuralgia along with other side effects. Just puzzled though re the deep pain if I lie on that side - maybe blood flow? My MRI at 3 years is unremarkable so that good at least.

Good evening all,
Sorry I have not posted for awhile and it looks like this one has not had new posts for 120+.  However, I have notice that my AN side is having pain at jaw and ear.  After researching it looks like the Parotid Gland might be what I am feeling.  Is's primary function is the creation of saliva, but also it looks like the facial nerve does go through the middle of it and if the gland is swollen I could see why I am having some of my facial nerve issues as well.
So now I need to read up on what everyone is doing to reduce the pain or swelling if they have any?  I appreciate any recommendations.  I know I will not get my face back to what it was before radiation, but this could help a lot.  I see the difference in my face with the coming and going of the swelling and pain.
Thank you all.
GB

yes I can help! I am taking PEA 3 x day (now on 2 x day but did 3 for two weeks). I use Herbs of Gold but its OTC many brands. I just like mine the best. I also tried LDN 0.25. Also taking some helpful herbs such as chamomile and lemon balm tincture. I take melatonin at bedtime. I have alsos found low dose aspirin helpful (but dont take at same time as pEA which is also an alagesic). My nerve pain has gone at the moment. Am three weeks into PEA.
