Recommended AN surgeon in Singapore?
« on: August 08, 2020, 08:03:13 am »
Dear all,

I am new to this forum and would greatly appreciate any help and guidance.
My wife was recently diagnosed with AN of size 3.1x3.4x3.1 which needs surgical removal.
She experienced sudden hearing loss during her pregnancy and more recently facial numbness after delivery; which prompted us to do MRI and discovered the AN.

We have then been consulting a few surgeons in Singapore, namely Dr Rao Jai Prashanth (who suggested translab) and Dr Timothy Lee (suggested retrosigmoid approach).

I understand majority of this forum focused on treatment in US but just wondering if anyone here happen to know of a good AN surgeon in Singapore? Main reason is our medical insurance covers treatment in Singapore only. With AN being so rare in a small country like Singapore, we wish to give it the best shot. Appreciate if anyone could shed some lights on this.

Thanks!

Hi fyongyu,

I might be able to help even though I just completed my surgery at UCSD. Feel free to drop me a message with your contact number and I can share with you what I know. I live in Singapore as well.

God bless!

Thanks guys!

I managed to get in touch with Shanne in this forum who was also treated in Singapore some years back.
She was very kind and generously shared her experience and guidance which helped my wife a lot through this difficult time.
It is amazing how this forum connects people who otherwise would never have met, even though Singapore is not a big country. =)

Just some update, we had seen a couple more specialists but decided to go with Dr Timothy Lee.
He is indeed a skillful, confident and caring neurosurgeon. Thanks to him the surgery went well and 98% of tumor was removed while facial nerves are intact during surgery monitoring.
My wife stayed longer than expected in hospital (1 week in ICU and 2 weeks in normal ward) but finally got discharged last week!
She is still struggling with balancing and has some facial weakness but otherwise OK.
The road to recovery may be long but the worst is over and we are blessed to have family and friends support.  :D

So to answer back my question, Dr Timothy Lee is definitely the neurosurgeon that I would recommend for anyone that is seeking treatment in Singapore.  ;)
