Best AN surgeons in the world
« on: February 27, 2019, 08:38:07 am »
Hi there, I am new to the forum, and need help and advice. I know this forum is largely a forum focused on treatment in the US, but I was wondering does anyone know of highly experienced AN surgeons outside the US?

The reason why I ask is because my insurance only covers treatment locations outside the US and as much as I'd love to get treated by the top top surgeons mentioned in the forums, I can't.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Check out Denmark.  I believe they have one of the only nationalized AN centers in the world and I read some good things about it.  That's about all the advice I can recommend - check it out and research a lot.
March 2018: 10 x 5 x 5 mm AN diagnosed April 2018.  October 2018: 12 x 5 x 5 mm.  Considering surgery in early 2019.
October 2019: 14 x 5 x 5mm.  Surgery scheduled for late Jan 2020.
January 2020:  Surgery at NW Hospital in Chicago area done by Drs. Fishman and Brayton

Hello,
I had heard about Dr. Takanori Fukushima of Duke and will see him on May 1st. I hear he's one of the best in the world and has a 60=70% hearing retention rate. Are you familiar with him?
I wish you the best,
Donna

Dr. Fukushima did my first AN surgery 11 years ago.  I had heard that he no longer operates, but consults.  Is that correct?

I have an appointment with Dr. Fukushima on Wednesday. He often sees patients in Japan, Italy, and the U.S. He's certainly retirement age and likely consults while the younger guys do the surgeries. I'll know more after May 1st. I'll give you an update. Best of luck in your search!

Hi everyone,

Thank you all so much for the recommendations and guidance. I thank God for this wonderful forum and for all the gracious people like yourselves who reply in order to help AN patients like me all around the world.

I apologize for not responding any earlier as it took me a long time to do adequate research and find alternative solutions for insurance. Truth be told it has been a very difficult time for me over the last 16 months, and COVID only made it worse.

In the end, it penciled for me to go to Dr. Friedman and Dr. Schwartz. They are truly the best in the world at this point in time. The best.

g_persefoni: Dr. Samii has retired from surgery already, unless you are referring to his son Dr. Amir Samii

AlabamaDonna: I hope your appointment with Dr. Fukushima went well!

God bless y’all!
