Ontarioians' getting Baha
« on: August 18, 2011, 08:00:13 pm »
Hi: I was wondering if there's anyone who's looked into getting Baha (or has had it done here in Ontario). I understand Dr. Ned. @ Sunnybrook now does them and I am considering it. Wondering about cost out of pocket, ? covered under insurances or Assistive Devices programme from the government.
Thanks, Kathleen
1st AN surgery @ age 23, 16 hours
Loss of 7-10th nerves
mulitple "plastic" repairs to compensate for effects of 7th nerve loss
tumor regrowth, monitored for a few years then surgically removed @ age 38 (of my choice, not medically necessary yet)

Hi kathleen
I had my BAHA done in Ottawa by Dr. Schramm....my out of pocket cost (under an incentive by cochlear and the ottawa hospital) was $1000.00
I also looked into the Octcon Ponto pro and at the time (just before our postal strike), the unit was going for $3,000. It was an introductory price for the ponto..I do know the government does have a program to assist financially...I think its about $1500/per every 3rd yr.
