Surgery tomorrow - 7/21
« on: July 20, 2011, 02:46:50 pm »
Hey all -

The date is finally arriving.  I have my surgery set with Dr. Gantz tomorrow at 7:15 at the University of Iowa Hospitals.  I'm a bit nervous, but also relieve that the date has finally come...it's been weighing on my mind for a long time now!

See you on the other side.   :)

Itheus ~

I know you've been working up to this surgery for awhile and so I can understand the sense of relief you feel, along with the usual (and perfectly normal) anxiety.  As you well know, Dr. Gantz is an excellent doctor with a lot of AN removal experience, so you certainly have good reason to go into the OR with confidence.  I think you'll do just fine.  You'll be in the thoughts and prayers of many - me included - and yes, we'll 'see you on the other side.'  :)

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

You'll be on my prayer list, too.  A word of advice:  don't refuse the sleeping pill :)

Hello!

I'm back home and in the care of my favorite nurse...my wife.   :)

Dr. Gantz was able to fully remove my tumor.  Unfortunately hearing was not saved on the right side, but I have nearly all of my taste, and no facial numbness.  It's been pretty smooth sailing.  The staff at UofI hospitals was simply fantastic.

Of course I'm dealing with balance issues and fatigue as to be expected, but am good spirits and happy to have this done.  I'm currently awaiting some lab results as well.  I guess it didn't look like a schwannoma (sp?), but whatever it is appears to be benign still.  Hopefully I'll get a call back tomorrow stating everything is good to go!

Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers.
