defection to the radiation club
« on: June 25, 2009, 01:59:39 pm »
Hello all,

I just left the "watch and wait" club and am defecting to this one.  FSRT is scheduled for August.  I'm taking my motorcycle north to Inuvik (leaving Saturday) before coming back to start the 5 week treatment.  Very glad that the waiting is over...

Congats on getting off the watch and wait list!  I hope having an active plan has brought you some peace and/or relief.

Best of luck and let us know how you're feeling.

Nick, the hardest part is now over for you. Deciding what to do (and when) is so draining. I think you've made a wise decision in choosing radiation. You are less likely to have serious side effects and complications, such as facial paralysis, and your recovery time will be a fraction of what it would be if you'd chosen surgery. But you already know that. Best wishes for a positive outcome and lightning-fast recovery, and please keep us posted.

Thanks for the replies.  Yes, it's really good to have the waiting over, decisions made and ready to move forward.  A certain amount of relief immediately.  My major motivation is to save as much hearing as is possible.  I know it's a crap shoot but figured that letting the little bugger keep growing is a sure way to lose more hearing so in the end the decision was easy...it just took way to long!

I well remember that sense of relief in making a final decision regarding treatment.  Even moreso when treatment was completed.  Now I've gotten to the point where I don't think about it on a daily basis.
Hope you have a great trip.
