One small step for mAN.....
« on: February 16, 2009, 01:29:29 pm »
One giant step for Lori...

I finally got brave enough to post a picture of myself!  I had my nerve graft surgery at the end of September so I'm about 5 months post op.  My lip on my AN side is actually up higher than my good side.  I can make it look even when I look in the mirror, but I haven't mastered the art of coordinating my tongue movements to make my face move without the visual input yet.  I start PT tomorrow, so hopefully we'll figure out how my face is wired now.

And pay no attention to the bad hair day.  It's a holiday - I'm allowed to look messy!   :D

Right 3cm AN diagnosed 1/2007.  Translab resection 2/20/07 by Dr. David Kaylie and Dr. Karl Hampf at Baptist Hospital in Nashville.  R side deafness, facial nerve paralysis.  Tarsorraphy and tear duct cauterization 5/2007.  BAHA implant 11/8/07. 7-12 nerve jump 9/26/08.

Lori:

You look good!  Certainly not like a person who suffered facial paralysis.  Oh, and your hair looks O.K. to me - but what do I know?  ;)

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Looking great Lori!

I could only dream of having that much good looking hair.  In fact the hair looks so good, I didn't notice that anything about the lips.  Congrats on the surgical results and continued best of luck with the PT.

Cheers!

Thank you so much for all your kind words!  They mean a lot!  It's nice to hear things like that from my family, but it means even more coming from those who really know what it's like!

You guys really know how to make a girl feel good about herself!   :)

And Ken, I'm due for a haircut - I could send you what they cut off and you could glue it to your own head!    Probably keep you warm up there in Canada!
