Acupunture does it work?
« on: October 02, 2008, 08:12:08 pm »
My AN was discovered in February 2007 measured about 5cm after an MRI. One of reasons I decided to check it out was that I was walking into walls, and places started to get dark, even though it was in the middle of the day. Migraines that lasted 24/7 so I would pop an asprin to clear the headache only for it to return even mightier untill the next time I could take another asprin.

Lucky my husband didn't heed my oh it will pass..he just dragged me to the dr who gave me a referral to see a neuro..and also to get an MRI done. I saw the dr on the Monday MRI was done on Wednesday, went to see the specialist on Friday prepped for surgery on Saturday morning..Things where a wirlwind. My facial nerve is still intact, just had radiation March 2008 just one treatment to shrink or kill the remaining tumour only 5% left.

Anyway its October 2008 I've had acupunture done on my face. I had 4 months of weekly visits and have noticed that my face is getting straighter.  Prayer is also dominant in day..I can ask why me Lord which I have done alot.  But my husband is just thankful that I am alive to see my son grow up and that I am still around.  We are celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary next year he really did take the vows literally in sickness and in health.  You are not alone there is light after the tunnel, I'm still walking through see you guys at the end!!  :)  :)

Hello and welcome!

Sounds like your husband is quite a guy!  And I'm sure he reminds you that he was right that one time, doesn't he?  I guess now you have to listen to him all the time!   ;D

I'm glad you're having some progress with your facial nerve.  I was about ready to start accupuncture for my facial issues, but since I really had no movement and it had been 18 months since my surgery, I decided to have the nerve jump surgery done.  I think after that is all healed and things start to move, I may look into accupuncture again.  I think accupuncture is one of those things that some people swear by and others don't believe in for a minute.  If you're seeing results, then I would say stick with it.  Ha ha.. no pun intended..  I really think that doctors are starting to admit they don't have all the answers and are more willing to try the alternative therapies than they used to be.

And I'm looking forward to a big party at the end of this tunnel!  I'm sure everyone else is too!

Thankyou for the welcome..yep my husband is the hero of the day..unsung he is not coz he will be quick to remind me of how he didnt push me to go they wouldnt have found it till it was too late..Yep modest he is not..but I'm just happy I'm still here..

Jump nerve surgery that sounds interesting what does that involve? Yep western medicine don't have all the answers..searching for answers no matter what avenue you take is the only way to go.  There is always hope!! If I always listened to the negative stuff I'd be a trembling mess but I hear take in, listening to opinions but form my own views.

Good luck for your surgery, yep I'll be there partying with you with a margureiita.. ;)

Welcome! I have facial paralysis (4 months post op) and have a tiny bit of movement returning. I am praying and praying that more will come. I am very interested in botox and accupunture, although I am very nervous about doing anything too soon. I am going for a facial assessment on the 10th, I will let you know what I find out. Sounds like things are working for you. That is great!

Thanks for the welcome Michelle!!

Yes sometimes all you have is prayer. With acupunture also my eye after about 4 treatments could fully close..I believe acupunture was a big part.  I would lie down and do a rosary coz it would take about an hour..filled in the time.

I hope botox and acupunture go well, but first that assessment with your face. I'll pray it goes well for you.  Let me know the outcome, I am so glad I found this site.  True it took me over a year to find and talk on this site but my self esteem is coming back.  I want to share all the milestones and dark obstacles i had to wade through to get to here. Take care see you soon!!
