My hearing is returning!!

Hi all,

I thought I would pass on some great news I got today.  I had a hearing test at 14 months post CK and after about 8 months of deafness on the AN side suddenly my hearing is returning! I only had a 20% word recognition today but it had been 0% for 8 months.  I showed anywhere from 5db to 45db improvement at various frequencies!

I can't believe that I my actually hear normally again!

The not so good news is, my cochlea seems to not be responding as well as my nerve is.  Hopefully, in time, it will wake up too.

I had given up,  I guess I gave up too early.


I hope others are doing well too.

That is awesome!!!  Keep us posted as time goes on.  I personally am very interested to see how your hearing progresses.  16

I believe you are given choices in life and it is not what has happened to you that defines who you are.  It is how you handle the situation and finding the positive in an almost hopeless situation that counts the most.  My son is my hero and I have had the pleasure of learning this from him.

Jim,
Congratulations, that is great news!  45 dB is a huge improvement!!  I'm especially glad to hear your news because I am kind of in the same boat.  I lost 20% on my word recognition since my CK 5 months ago, so it's great to know there's still a real chance of getting it back.  Very happy for you, I hope it keeps coming!

Jim,

what do I say? :)  I am thrilled to hear this great news... and tickled it is paying off for you.  Another CK success story. I just love it! :)  My 20 month follow up is occuring in a couple of weeks.... lets hope the success stories continue ;)

Congratulations on the great news ;D

I have to admit I'm jealous.  I'm SSD since my surgery and while I'm grateful that I don't have any other side effects, I sure do miss my hearing.  :(

How cool is that!  8)

Restored hearing is something you don't hear about everyday. What a great result, something we can all dream about and hope for.
 
I am curious, you said 8 months of deafness, did you lose hearing after CK and then get it back, or did you lose the hearing before CK?

8 mm left AN June 2007,  CK at Stanford Sept 2007.
Hearing lasted a while, but left side is deaf now.
Right side is weak too. Life is quiet.

edema brought it on?  I had slight hearing loss between 1-6 mos post CK, then it leveled back off to what it was at time of treatment.  Did your radio-docs note possible due to edema?
