Eye surgery
« on: August 01, 2007, 07:14:16 am »
I have eye surgery scheduled for tomorrow at Shands hospital in Gainesville, FL to correct my double vision. I go back on Friday for my Dr to check me out. She said they will put a loose stich in so if my eye on Friday is off a little she can tug on it to move it back in place. I am a little nervous but happy I am moving along with this healing process.

Thank you Bruce for your prayers and thoughts. I had eye muscle surgery and it was a little more painful than I thought. It was a two hour surgery and currently my eye is scratchy from the stiches as well as I still have a little nausea. I go back tomorrow to see my Dr for her to hopefully adjust my eye. After my AN was removed in June 2006 my eye has been facing my nose now it is looking towards the outside of my face. She put a loose stich in the eye muscle and I am praying tomorrow she will be able to straighten the eye out. I am a little sad at the moment as I was hoping I could see but I am going to try and stay positive and pray that it will get better.

This has been more difficult for me to handle than my brain tumor being removed. I know that may sound silly but I guess I am feeling a little sorry for myself which I have tried really hard not to do.

Here, here Nancy and I might add all we want is to SEE normal!  This comes from someone who's vision bounces while walking.

Here's to normal vision for you as you so deserve this.  My thoughts are with you.

My surgery was a success - HOWEVER, it did not come easy. Friday when I went back to see my Dr for my eye adjustment I was depressed and sad. I thought that there was no way she would be able to get my eye straight. It was facing towards the outside of my face. The office was full with patients and when I went to the restroom I was standing in line and she ran up to me to see how I was doing. I told her I was sad that my eye was facing outward and she grab my hands and said, don't worry, I can fix it. I will see you in a few minutes.

When I finally got in to see her, the first 10 minutes sitting in the chair was difficult. I was sick to my stomach, hot and thought I was going to pass out. She left me to get calmed down, she turned down the AC and came back in and started back on my eye. She tugged and moved and did all sorts of things to my eye. At one point my eye was seeing at a diagonal. She was getting it close but not totally straight. She brought in her assistants and eye muscle specialist who was checking me out for possibly another prism. She left the room and came back in and said she was going to try one more thing and she and the intern worked another 15 minutes (tugging and pulling) and got my eye straight only to lose it but she didn't give up and got it straight again with my good eye and tightened the stiched and was done. Total amount of time she worked on my eye was about an hour.

She told me my eye would hurt for several days and it does. That she had done a lot to it and this was the most difficult one she has ever worked on. I was elated. I hugged all the women who helped me and was crying tears of happiness. This weekend I've tried to rest my eyes and not do too much. I am very very happy. Not being able to see this past year and now able to see one object thru my glasses and without my glasses - well LIFE IS GOOD.

Thank you all for your prayers and support. It will take about 3-4 weeks and my eye should look normal. Right now I feel like Rocky Balboa but that's ok. I go back and see my Dr next week and hopefully she will release me.  Again thank you for your support!

This is not silly at all. You have every right to feel that way.

Days 3 -12, post surgery, I had double vision (eventually dissipated unaided). I was without vision as I has to wear an eye patch and or bubble (ie the vision issue were worse than the inner ear thing as far as nausea, balance, etc)  on my one eye for 6 weeks- post op. This was, for me, much more depressing than losing my hearing on the one side (My first undergraduate degree was in ‘visual arts’- so rather I am a “visualâ€? more than “auditoryâ€? person- it seemed my music friends are more mortified about the hearing loss than I am).

Wow what an endurance test for you to go through this for and entire year (I thought my 6 weeks of this was bad enough). I am so thrilled to read that you can see.

Your story is remarkable… thank you SO much for sharing this.
God bless you.

Keep moving forward…

Cheers,
