TRT-Tinnitus Retraining Therapy
« on: June 16, 2007, 12:08:43 pm »
Has anyone gone through this training program?  What are your results?  It's very expensive, $4500 and I'm looking for real answers from someone who has been through this program.  In the mean time, I wait for my musician's ear plug to be made in two weeks.  I was discouraged strongly in getting one of these as they believe I suffer from hyperacusis; therefore, the TRT program.  In the meantime I'll formulating more questions to the doctor about long-term effects if I do nothing.  So far hearing tests show within normal limits.  Thanks for any response.

What did you end up doing? I had plugs made, and find them very helpful. Yvette

I have my plug and love it!  I am now using my plug only when I know the noise level will be too much.  I certainly don't plug up as much as I use to (every time I went outside walking or driving in the car or at grocery store, etc.) to allow my good ear to become less sensitive and seems to be working, but I do have my plug with me and know the signs of needing to plug up as information overload causes my head to spin.

Hi Arushi;

   I'm glad you like the musicians ear plug. I've read other good reports of those.
   Is it hyperacussis or recruitment you are experiencing?
   If sound gives you true vertigo, you have "Tullios Phenomena"
   Re, tinnitus retraining, I would personally spend the money on something fun or guaranteed useful.
   A personal decision for sure, and, controversial.
   Best wishes!
