Cost of CK treatment
« on: March 13, 2007, 03:47:02 pm »
I just wondered if anyone could give me a ballpark estimate on how much CK treatment costs. My insurance pays a %. I am trying to figure out how much money I need to set aside for the procedure.
Thanks much,
Becky

Becky, I had GK and it was $50,000.00, but my out of pocket expense was $25.00 with BC/BS Insurance. I would think that CK would be about the same.($50,000.00) That is like you said "a ballpark figure" Hope this helps. What Insurance Co. do you use?

The "insurance" is a health benefit fund through my husband's union. The good part is that I can receive treatment at any place I choose. The bad is that I pay 20%. I just want to get some idea of how much I will need to pay out of pocket. Thanks for the estimate! It at least gives me some idea of what I am looking at.

The cost of CK at Stanford for me was about the figure mentioned before $50K. BUT, I had a 33% discount for international customer, for whatever reason!  LOL Thankfully.

Becky,
Stanford billed my ins. $64,000.  then they did insurance mickey mouse with discounts, adjustments and whatever else and my final bill was $680.00. I had 10% deductible for in network services.  This is only the procedure - doctor bills added another $200.00.  I was in SFO in November 2006 for 2cm AN.  Doing fine.

I’m wondering why there are such big differences between Europe and the States. I’ve paid ‘only’ 8500 Euro (about $11000) for the GK in the Netherlands (November 2007). Sorry that is not correct: my insurance paid for it, it cost me only the petrol to the hospital.

Thanks to all who responded. I think that I will try to do some negotiation with the hospital sine I have such a large out of pocket.

Hi ShoeGalBecky: $69,694.00 is the estimate Stanford gave me February 07. Took them a few days to put it together for me as I too was worried about out of pocket expenses. However, Blue Shield will be picking up entire tab after I fulfill my $4,000 yearly deductible.  Micro surgery is estimated at about $120,000 so I think the union insurance would want to kick in a bit more considering how much you are saving them long term... just a thought when you get ready to negotiate.  Good luck- take care, Annie
