Where do you go to escape from the AN?
« on: February 21, 2007, 07:48:43 pm »
Hello Everyone,

Simply put, I got to go with a friend to Monterey just yesterday.  It is my first escape since my journey became a reality, last June.  We went to Ventana Restaurant at Big Sur.

I fit this in between many a doctor appointment, physcal therapy and many other appointments of my journey within the past seven months.

Where do you go to escape?  The ocean is good, the woods are wonderful and even a hot bubble bath will work fine.

Hugs to all,

When I take a nice long shower, the noise drowns out the tinnitus and it seems like it's gone away.  I take long showers now!  ;D  The roar of the surf might well do the same thing.  Haven't been back to the beach since I went to a wedding on the beach in Sept. and felt dizzy on the soft sand.  Looking forward, tho, to having a little vacation there sometime this year.

I remember going to the beach to walk of course the infant falling down and going boom was cute..me on the other hand not so cute so haven't been back.  Maybe it's time to try again  :)  You know I really thought recovery would be using my free airline miles (those expired before I got a chance to use them), seeing a lot of movies, doing lunches,  funny how none of that happened  LOL  Movies are def my escape!

I would love to escape to an ocean, (the beach near Laguna comes to mind as I had a wonderful time there once). But the last year has been so busy in many ways including appts., that most of the time i escape into my hobbies, and books, and yup, movies. I had expected to get to my cabin more last summer and somehow didn't go very often. Maybe this spring/summer/fall.

My front porch was wonderful this morning.  In South Texas we have lots of birds announcing the end of February.  I enjoyed them so much!  Tomorrow I spend the day with my girlfriends sewing and chatting in a classroom.  This is my escape!

Just living a relatively normal life is my best 'escape'.  Whether having a simple lunch at a family restaurant with my wife or just doing a little shopping at the mall, it always helps to be doing 'normal', everyday things that I couldn't do well (or enjoy) a year ago, pre-diagnosis/surgery/radiation.  Of course, a week on the beach in some exotic locale would be nice, too.  Ah, well.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Hi Palace,

My favorite escape is Carmel by the Sea, very close to where you were this week. I find the ocean incredibly relaxing. We need to meet up in Monterey or Carmel.

Glad you were able to get away for a bit.

Hugs to you and the doggies!

Fishing of course! .. the roar of a river water fall is about the only thing that overrides my loud "T"  (a shower is a close second)

Escapes:

Travel (away right now)
Cooking and eating
Garden and gardening
Anywhere quiet and relaxing, preferably noise free
Beaches
Mountains (when in a country with mountains, real mountains, the rocky kind)
Reading
Wandering around taking photographs
Bookshops
Food shops
Being in touch with friends

Those are all activities that make me 'escape', or the things I love doing.

Ciao, Lorenzo

Ahhhh all the wonderful places to escape to.  On days when physically "going" somewhere to escape is not possible and I'm feeling the need to escape I will sit outside (I live in S. Florida) in my yoga studio facing the garden.  I plug up my good ear so I can hear the sound of my breath--a soft and slow inhale, exhale.  Focusing only on the sound of my breath--a sobering reality.

We enter life with a breath and exit life with a breath.  Every once and a while, in between the beginning and the end of your life, become conscious of your breath .

My great escape was a trip to Walt Disney World to celebrate my one year AN anniversary, then we followed that up with 2 weeks at Anna Maria Island FL. For my 2 year, we headed back to AMI so I would say that I can escape it all on the ocean.......

As for day to day...a nice chocolate dessert does it everytime.

My favorite "escape" is a good book, my pj's, a nice cup of french vanilla coffee, and my two sweet pups curled up beside me on the couch.

It doesn't get much better than that for me.

I go to the stables and ride my horse.  The best escape and it helps my balance, strength, vision and spirit!
