Eye Pain?
« on: May 20, 2023, 06:24:26 pm »
I have just passed my Two year mark from AN  retrosigmoid surgery. MRI looks good. Only minor scar tissue. Headaches are pretty much gone. But it took almost 2 years. Lost hearing and have tinnitus balance has improved greatly. Still have some neck spasms where they cut me. Acupuncture helped me there. BUT in January I started having off and on eye pain. Surgeon said see an ophthalmologist. I did they said they don't see a problem. Just gave me eye drops for dryness.  My eye still hurts. Not constantly but every day. OTC pain killers do help. Anyone else develop eye pain during there recovery?? Thanks

I had this very badly especially after Covid. I had CK done 4 years ago. For me whats worked is the following: a microdose of aspirin after dinner plenty water. a panadol, a 1 mg diazepam at bedtime. I havent tried ibuprofen yet but last might didnt need the aspirin or panadol I just took the 1mg diazepam at bedtime. WSlept deeply- no more eye pain. I am not pushing valium on anyone - but in this instance it (maybe the GABA) calmed the nerve pain. I also woke to no joint or muscle pain first time in 2 months. Tonight day 4-I will take the 1mg one more time then ask doc on Monday re GABA supplement. I get these stabbing eye pains on and off after treatment but opthalmologist says its nothing. I feel its trigeminal irritation. I think maybe magnesium, good sleep, eye ointment at night, sleep mask to protect eye, good sunglasses. ALSO I must mention Zoptic eye drops which are OTC anti inflammatory, anti histamine - keep in fridge. I was told that the stabbing eye and ear pain I get might be TMJ. I looked up why valium might be helping me: it lowers intercranial pressure and in the context of brain injury is anti inflammatory. I slept deeply again last night pain free. Again I just took 1mg and noticed I slept better than with melatonin which I have used for 3 years (2mg).

Thank you so much for your reply. That definitely makes sense. I will try that. I have dexamethasone in the medicine cabinet. I do still have off and on inflammation around surgical area  so cranial nerve inflammation could cause it. Thanks again 👍
