Just reached W&W 20 years!
« on: November 22, 2021, 06:58:40 pm »
It's been a long time since I checked out this board.  I just passed my 20-year anniversary with an MRI that is still basically unchanged - maybe a few mm but no symptoms.   In the interim I've had breast cancer twice and hubby had his own brain tumor (meningioma) that he succumbed to, but life goes on.  Hope everyone in W&W can continue and do well.  Stay safe.

9th cranial nerve schwannoma - like an acoustic neuroma on another nerve. Have recently been told it could be acoustic neuroma. Only 7 mm of growth in 18 years. With no symptoms. Continuing W&W

Wow! Congratulations. I hope to reach that milestone.  What size was your AN to start?
11/2/17 MRI w/o contrast for positional vertigo-1.3 cm mass in left IAC
11/8/17 MRI with contrast - AN 1.4 cm x .5 cm x .4 cm
5/23/18 MRI w/o contrast 1.4 cm x 0.6 cm x 0.5 cm.
11/2018 and 11/2019 MRIs stable
6/2021 and 8/2021 MRI AN 1.2 cm x .5 x .5 and new pituitary microadenoma

Wow. That is amazing, and inspirational.  Mine was diagnosed in May this year, then put on W&W.  5 months later my hearing dropped significantly and I was worried - turned out the neuroma didn't change at all and now the neuro doc wants be back in a year instead of 6 months, so very happy about that :) Glad to know that long term W&W is possible...

My tumor was found incidentally after a bad headache in 2001.  The report says it measured 9 mm but upon review it was felt that it was under-read and actually was 12 mm.  From that point forward until this year, it has increased to 17 mm., but, more importantly, no symptoms.  When I went back to my neurologist this week, he said after all this time I could stop having MRI's!

Congratulations! I’m very happy for you. May I ask if you did annual mri’s with or without contrast? I’m just wondering which one I should do on my next one.

Best wishes!

Marti

Hi - so sorry for the delay in answering.  Yes, I did MRI's annually (two of them went for 18 months instead of 12).  They were definitely done with contrast.
