Tinnitus question
« on: November 08, 2006, 08:04:29 am »
Hi guys,
ive been feeling very worried lately because I think i sometimes hear ringing in my other ear. It is not constant like my AN ear and not as loud but Im pretty sure its there.(its actuakky hard to tell sometimes because my AN ear is so loud)
Someone told me that sometimes the brain transfers the sound to the other ear, has this happened to anyone ?
Right now Im worried that something is growing on my other ear. My last MRI was at the end of July which showed nothing on my other ear, could something have grown that quickly ??
My anxiety also just seems to be making it all worse.
Im almost afraid to call my doctor.

My experience is that the tinnitus has been in the opposite ear from the tumor and more recently now experiencing the tinnitus in the AN ear.  I was told by a Tinnitus specialist that the sound is not really in the ear but a perception of sound from the brain. Also told that the Tinnitus may not be from the AN.  Now that I have completed my Cyberknife treatment I will be going back to the specialist to see if there is any hope of relieving this.  I discovered that Kaiser has a team of doctors and other practioners that treat Tinnitus.  They admit that treating is quite a challenge but it is worth exploring.  I am sure that if Kaiser is offering this that there are other specialists out there.

Best Wishes,

Bev

I don't have it constantly in my good ear, but I have noticed it a few times.  Especially when I had a nasty cold last week.  I just assume it's my brain being confused and misfiring.  Maybe I'm too blase, but it honestly never even occured to me to mention it to my doctor.   ;)

Darn.......and I was logging off.....to leave for the dental appointment and this subject came up.  Guess what, I have had "transfer ringing in my good ear," now.......as well.  I'm in the *club* big-time!  My AN is now having the ringing switching back and forth.  (brain-thing as, my recent MRI shows no AN in the left ear and only right ear.  It doesn't happen much the BAND PLAYING in the left ear but, IT DOES HAPPEN.  Darn however, I'm glad to know I'm not alone in this one as, I was worried.  I don't wish it on you people but, I was wondering about this subject as well.

OK, off to the dental appointment........

I think periodic tinnitus is normal even for those without tumors. People with ANs unfortunately are stuck with it for life on the affected side (nerve damage). Although, there are some people with AN's that don't have permanant tinnitus before or after treatment. Then again some acquire it permanately followinng treatment.
You will find answers to just about any scenario right here this board.  Also, I've heard others complain of having permanant tinnitus within both ears with a tumor only on one side. My MRI was perfectly clean on the other side too and I also have that brief moment of tinnitus on my good side but it is not often and goes away relatively quickly. I drink so much coffee with plenty of sugar and sometimes blame this for increase in tinnitus.

Hi Tinniuts sufferers,

Mine is so horrible there are times I wish I could just stay asleep forever so I do't have to hear it. Good thing I have 2 young daughters that keeps me going. I have read that styess and caffine make it worse for some people, I have quit the coffee to see and it does not make a difference for me, so since the noise keeps me from sleeping I'm back on the coffee to get going in the morning. Stress sometimes can make it louder, but mine is so lound all the time it doesn't really make that much difference. ANd it's  Always in my AN ear.

BevM,   Would love to know what the tinnitus specialist comes up with for you besides masking with white noise and Amitriptyline. That seems to be the usual scribes. As far as I know they really don't know what to do for us.  keep us posted

thanks a lot for sharing.

its been gradually going over to my good ear and seems to be getting louder and louder in the good ear. Im sorry that you have to live with this noise as well, but im in a sense relieved that someone else is having in both ears with only one AN.
I called my doctor to make an appointment just to be sure but hes on vacation, i can only see him Nov 29.(Im also stressing about it so im sure im making it worse)

Its kind of cool that it warns you of your rising sugar though.
Im also waiting and watching right now, keep me informed of whats going on with you.
Thanks again for you input,
T

Hi Tatianne,
I too have been noticing lately tinnitus in my non-AN ear, not consistently but more randomly, as well. I wondered if b/c I have no hearing in my AN ear that it is the reason I heard it in my non-AN ear. I was actually getting worried about it too, so was glad to see your question and know that I am not the only one, so thanks for asking the question.

for my new years resolution ... I'm gonna quit coffee (I drink it all day) ... I hope to bring the volume down a a little ... jeez, after a quit smoking 5 years ago .. and never thought I could give up coffee .. but then again my T was not as loud then !!
