Blink Back?
« on: November 27, 2016, 01:12:24 pm »
Hey folks!  Just curious as to when you saw your blink come back for those of you who had paralysis.  I'll be 6 months out this Wednesday.  I had hb6 paralysis and have come a long way with  facial waking.  My smile has improved drastically and my eye is just about normal size but yet I still have just a flutter.

I'm at 10 months from my surgery where I had full facial paralysis. I've slowly regained my smile, probably 70%. In the past month, my eye has also gotten tighter but no blinking. I asked Jackie Diels if that was normal and she said it's good progress. So know that at 10 months, I'm still progressing. It feels like the longest time in the world!!

I am a little over 3 years. I can close my eye when I think about it, but it's still more of a "flutter" during a regular automatic blink. Hopefully you will see a lot more progress in the next few months!
2.7 cm meningioma in CPA and IAC
Retrosig June 2013 resulted in Facial paralysis and SSD
6-mo post-op MRI showed 1.0 cm remains in IAC
3-yr MRI still shows no new growth!
6/2014 Baha magnet implanted; 8/2014 magnet removed due to poor healing; 9/2014 abutment installed. Hearing fine!

It seems my recovery of the blink is similar to Kristena.  I am 5 years out and I only have a flutter or a little more.  When I really concentrate I can almost close my eye.  I do have a platinum weight in my lid.

Hopefully you will regain more than me!!

I'm 8 weeks post op. I went to another dr and this guy is also a plastic surgeon and wants to stitch eyelid closed because it doesn't blink. I said no way.  The eye is now able to close almost 100% and my face is very slowly waking up. Isn't it too soon to take drastic measures. Thank you Joan

In my opinion as long as you are taking very good care of your cornea...not letting it dry out, I would avoid stitching it shut.  The doctors really worry about the cornea because things can go south very very fast.
