House clinic in L. A.
« on: January 08, 2013, 02:54:54 pm »
I recently referred my cousin to The House clinic for a consultation/ or review of her MRI and according to their website they now charge $250.00.

Can anyone verify that? Is it a recent change???
Thanks, look forward to any input.

Jackie ~

According to the HEI website, this doesn't seem right.  http://www.houseearclinic.com/consultation/acousticneuroma

Perhaps the consult is only free if the patient has already been diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma and the House consult is a second opinion.  I would call them (toll free) and find out.

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

The $250 charge is for "patients with medical conditions other than acoustic neuroma (vestibular schwannoma), House Clinic offers records review consultations. You may send your records by mail to:"  See:  http://www.houseearclinic.com/info/recordsreview

Anyone with an MRI of a suspected AN can still have a free consultation, per Jim's link.

Thanks for your input. Does this mean that if you are diagnosed with a Meningioma, that House clinic will charge for a review?? Do they only do free consults for AN's??

Call House and ask that question.  It is a clinic that specializes in disorders with the ear and/or hearing so it may be the dividing line between charging or not.

I am certainly not an authority, but from my limited experience, I have the feeling House will work with patients having tumors or neuromas on cranial nerves that could impact a patient's hearing ..... e.g. acoustic neuromas (vestibular schwannomas), facial neuromas, etc.  At least the ones that run through the internal auditory canal.
