Bilateral ANs

How common is it too have ANs on both sides? I am 31 and recently dx with (L) AN and likely going for the surgery. I am being told that preserving functional hearing on my affected side is not likely. I have seen a few posts with people reporting ANs on both sides. How common is this? Does this build a case for radiation to attempt to preserve hearing?

Any thoughts welcome!

It is said that 5% of those with AN end up with NF2.      Some them are hereditary and some are not.     There may seem like alot of us here have NF2 but those with chronic issues just stay on and those with just one AN and do well are on for a time and go back to regular life with possibly some adjustments to live iwth or even can get some help for.                           One can lose their hearing with any kind of treatment which is what makes it a hard decision for some.

  with nerve graft 3-23-06
   CSF leak revision surgery 4-07-06

   near deaf on left before surgery
   with hearing much improved .
