Dale's surgery update
« on: July 01, 2006, 12:06:32 am »
Hi everyone,

I just wanted to give a quick update. Dale had surgery (translab) on Wednesday with Dr. Brackmann and Dr. Hitselberger at HEI in LA. They removed the 3.5 AN with no damage to the facial nerve. Dale was moved out of ICU on Thursday afternoon and today he took his first walk around the nurses station and ate a regular meal for dinner. He's crabby and uncomfortable, but that's to be expected. We are hoping for a better day tomorrow with more walks around the nurses station and more soft, solid food.

Nip:

If Dale is walking around the nurses station already he will have a speedy recovery.  Good for him/you!!

The discomfort goes away considerably once that pressure bandage comes off - that milestone is huge.

Best of luck to you both,  Kathy, a translaber from Minnesota

Wow, that seemed like a fast journey!  Glad he's doing good.  He'll be chasing those nurses...I mean driving them nuts in no time!

Tell him one of the best parts about recovery is having to read!  Being a teacher it was nice to have some down time to just indulge in books.  It was prescribed to me for eye therapy  ;D  Worst therapy I had...NOT  LOL

Keep us updated!

Hugs to the both of you!

Yay!! it sound like he's already doing better than most. just keep walking as much as you can, but also don't overdo it too much the first few days--energy levels are low.

So glad he's come through it so well.
