AN Awareness on local TV??
« on: July 09, 2006, 09:23:15 am »
Ok.  I did it.  We will see what happens.

This am after reading the most recent posts on here I wrote to a Health Issues Reporter at one of the local TV stations re: AN Awareness/Early Detection.

A few years ago she did a report on the BAHA with the surgeon Denise and I had.  I decided that if I could get anyone to listen to me maybe she would be the one.

I explained to her in a short email why early diagnosis means everything when an AN is concerned.  I asked Her to consider doing a story on AN's for not only people with symptoms but for physicans as they tend to mis-diagnose and send people on their way with "fluid in the ear" etc.....

Will let you all know if/when I get a response.

GOOD FOR YOU!! ;D   Maybe we should ALL e-mail our local TV stations. And I have a question..is this "sloshing" I feel in my ear an AN symptom?  I didn't know that.  I also have that in my right ear, but I don't have an AN on that side.  Allergies?  That's what I was treated for in the first place.

sounds like a fab idea!  I know the local station did a recent piece on CK at Beth Israel... may be able to tie it in to AN.... hmmmmmmmm....

Sue:

I had the sloshing sound (along with many more sounds) until I had surgery but I have no idea if it is a common symptom or not.

I was treated for fluid in the middle ear for a few months, allergy meds, nasal steroid etc...then finally I was
taken seriously and referred to a ENT.  I just KNEW something was in there that should not be.

Hi -

I recieved a email from the reporter I wrote to re:  AN awareness.  She is interested and will present the story to her co-workers in the newsroom to see if they want her to persue it.  Cross your fingers everyone.  Its a start.  Between Denise and I we can give her a earfull -  ::)

She did say she might not get back to me for a few weeks.

Kathy - I'll keep my fingers crossed!  Because of your thread, I wrote to Woman's World Magazine (a favorite of Battyp and I). It is a weekly publication and they always feature a story bringing awareness to a particular medical issue/disease. Hopefully they will contact me.

Thanks again Kathy!

I did not hear from the reporter in the previous posts on this thread again, so I just wrote to another one that works for a different channel.  I met him at work the other day and decided it was worth a shot.  If this one has no interest, we still have two more channels in the Mpls. St. Paul area.

I shall not give up! ;D

Happy Thanksgiving everyone,  Kathy

In retrospect I had been having occasional symptoms for years which were dismissed as an ear infection or cold in the ear??
The nurse at work even said  my eardrum looked red like there was an infection.  It wasn't till the symptoms came and stayed that I got diagnosed.

Kathy,

What a great idea!  I had the same thing happen with my ear.......my doctor told me I had fluid in my ear....nose spray and antibiotics...said it would take a long time for it to go away.  Sooooooooooooo I waited and waited and still nothing....finally went back and she said there isn't any fluid in your ear.....and I said that's funny because my ear is the same if not worse.  Finally she sent me to an ear specialist....hence an AN.

Also, writing to Oprah was a Great Idea Nan, anyway I was thinking if we could get a hold of Dr. Oz somehow.......I'm sure you've all seen him on Oprah.  It seems like so many people listen to what he has to say....and he talks about all of the body not just the heart.  Oprah has him on quite often.

I know that the AN's use to be pretty rare........but it seems like people are getting them more now.........so public awareness is great........not to mention doctor's need to be more careful in diagnosing ear problems.
