Allan's surgery was today
« on: May 06, 2011, 03:23:14 pm »
Surgery started at 824am and I was talking to Dr Friedman about the outcome at 1224 and had my hands on Allan at 130.   I could not be more please with our experience at Duke or with his wonderful team of Dr's.

They successfully removed the schwannoma and left the hearing and facial nerves intact.    Allan is currently heavily medicated in ICU but I fully expect to see him up and moving around a little bit in the morning.  He responds to my questions and currently is reporting his pain at a 4.   I'm excited to see what the next few days bring in his recovery.  He was hoping to preserve some hearing on the left side and I was hoping to preserve the facial nerve.  It looks like we might have both got our wish.  God is indeed good.

Star ~

My sincere congratulations on Allan's successful AN surgery.  I agree that God is good and I hope, along with you (and many others) that Allan will recover rapidly and that his hearing and facial mobility will be retained.

Jim
4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Keeping Allan in my prayers!! And you too! Let us know how it goes as he continues to recover! Remember, the first three days don't count so don't get too worried if something goes off slightly kilter!  Good luck!

So glad Allan is out of surgery and doing well.  Just the kind of reports we like to hear.

Many thoughts and prayers for an uneventful recovery.  Here's hoping he will be home soon.

Thank All!

Allan was released today but we have to stay in the Raleigh area for a few more days just to be close to Duke in case he has any complications.  He truly is my superman, the only thing he has been taking the last 2 days for pain is tylenol 325 as needed.   I am so happy we are on this side of surgery and recovering well.   He has about 23 staples which will be removed in about 10 days.  His only complaint is not being able to wash his hair.
