HI Peaches,
Why did he put you on the meds to help with the dizziness?
I wasn't offered anything for mine except to lay on my side in the bed and go to the other side fast until I couldn't stand it anymore.  That didn't work for me either  LOL
Hoping someone can come along and shed more light on this for you.

Peaches, the anti nausea meds can backfire on you if you are sensitve to them.  Some people overdose on these, thinking it helps and they just feel much sicker.  I am 64 and had surgery for my tumor.  Please write if you'd like more information.  I am sure there are others on this forum like you too.  So maybe they can help out.  This is the best place to get information.  You can use the search feature to find particular keywords, or just go to the Pre-Treatment discussion topic and start reading the threads

About the medications for dizziness, not many of us use them.  Your dizziness is from the balance changes that result from tumor pressure.

I skipped the meds...my doc mentioned that they can cause the same symptoms they are trying to help.  Here are a few non-medical things that helped me.

Sea-Bands-for nausea (sold at the drug store) -people use these for motion sickness, instructions in the box.  They work off acupressure points on the wrists.  I wore them for days at a time and then world take them off if they bothered me- then used them again.

Ginger-for nausea.  Skip gingerale (too sweet and no real ginger)...use fresh ginger in foods (lots), they have great herbal ginger teas, natural ginger anything...and it tastes great.

For dizziness at night I used the old drunk remedy...one hand on the wall and a foot on the floor- it stops the world from making laps around you.

And lastly...and my favorite- Acupuncture.  Many insurance plans cover up to 12 visits a year, enough to know what you think.  Remember acupuncturists are like doctors- there are good ones and mediocre.  I chose one recommended by another acupuncturist...she is an Oriental Medical Doctor, acupuncturist and oddly enough used to be an ER doc in China...she is one of my most favorite people and a definite advocate for me when it comes to my health.  It has really helped and I will skimp on other things in life to go.

Best wishes to you.  I'm sorry you don't feel well and hopefully we can be as supportive and helpful as possible.

Cheers,
Rory

Peaches,I also used ginger to help with nausea before surgery and while in the hospital. It also comes concentrated in gelcaps.(If you're not crazy about the taste of ginger)
My doctor is actually trying to get ginger introduced in his hospital and was the one who suggested it.
Hope you are able to find someone close by with more knowledge about ANs to talk to.

Take care Peaches, don't let a fall complicate your life.  Maybe use a cane or walker to stay safe.  Sit down in the bath or shower.  Many of us have done that.

Peaches.

Where do you live?  You will get many responses re:  Doctors to see about your AN once we know your location.

You should see a AN specialist, that is for sure.

Good luck,  Kathy

Extreme vertigo and nausea came on suddenly for me.  Something they put in IV's in hospital helped with nausea.  They tried several different meds in hospital for dizziness, but nothing helped.  On dismissal they sent me home with 2 meds - promethazine for nausea and ativan (lorazepam) for dizziness.  I didn't need the nausea med, but I did try the ativan.  It didn't help, and dizziness is one of it's listed side effects.  I couldn't quite make sense of prescribing a drug with dizziness side effect for dizziness.  Go figure!  Anyway, http://www.drugs.com/ativan.html will give you info on ativan or you can look up specific drug they gave you from this page.

When dizziness is bad, sometimes the only relief is just laying down and being still.  It has improved some with time, I think more my brain adjusting than anything else, but it's still constant.

Suggestions on using chair in shower and staying near wall for balance are helpful.  I've done those.  Haven't tried acupuncture, but have wondered if it would help.  I've read that some exercises help as well.

Good luck.
