A new CyberKnife in Houston?
« on: August 06, 2009, 11:11:54 am »
I half-heard a radio ad yesterday for a new CK location in Houston, but couldn't hear clearly where at..  Has anyone else heard that in the Houston area?

Regards,
Brian

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Just getting back to this, but that news release was from March 2008 (almost 1.5 years ago)..  I just heard the commercial not too long ago.  There's gotta be another one.  I found info on that one, but it was so long ago that I dismissed it as being the one that I heard on the radio.

Incidentally, I heard an ad on the radio for proton beam therapy at MD Anderson Cancer Hospital.  The ad was specifically for cancer patients, so I wonder if they do proton beam therapy there for ANs..

Phyl -

couldn't you or Steve check with Catherine from Accuray to see what's up with this?

I'm sure she'd have the scoop.

I don't actually "make" trouble..just kind of attract it, fine tune it, and apply it in new and exciting ways

Hey Jan :)

anyone can go to the Accuray website to see the updated list of locations.....

www.cyberknife.com

There is an option there to see the most updated centers up on line......

hey my Pooter! :)

I have been hearing dribbles about the Proton Center in the Houston area but unknown about their treatments of AN's.... .would be curious on that one and if they have treated any yet.

Just an update (again).. I heard the radio ad again, and I paid more attention to it.  It never says that it was "new".  I guess I just interjected that mentally when listening to it because I had never heard a radio ad for CK before.  It was for St. Luke's Hospital in Houston.  I went to Phyl's link, and sure enough St Luke's was listed as the only location in the Houston area.  So, mystery solved.

I dug through the MD Anderson website to see if I can see if they treat AN's with proton beam and never found anything definitive.  Everything I saw lump ANs right along with other types of tumors / cancers of the brain and also lumped proton beam therapy with other treatment options.  They never come right out and say that proton beam therapy is used on treatment of ANs.

Happy trails..
