tinnitus 2 1/2 yrs post op
« on: April 18, 2007, 09:20:55 am »
I have developed annoying tinnitus 2 1/2 yrs post trans lab in my dead ear. My ENT Dr. suggests lipo-flavinoids may help. Anyone with any experience??   I know lipo flavinoids are good for dizziness, haven't heard it being used for tinnitus.

Hey Sam:  well, let us know if it does help;  my otoneurologist did a 'grand rounds' on Tinnitus in 2005,  & bottom line was there really isn't a 'cure'.
Somethings were helpful, I had written it somewhere on this site awhile ago.   If I come across it I'll let you know.
Take care,   Nancy
SAM:  I just pulled up the report from grand rounds - look under AN Community: TV Ad - Lipoflavinoid for ear ringing - don't know if I did it right, but in my response I put in what the doc felt was most effective, etc.    Hope it helps,  Nancy

Hi Sam,

I started taking Lipoflavanoid a few weeks ago, recommended by Dr. Slattery of HEI.  I have a very small AN, 2.5 mm (or possible cochlear neuroma or inflammation of the nerve).  My symptoms were partial loss of hearing, debilitating dizziness and tinnitus which all began in January.  My dizziness has gotten easier the last few weeks which may be the result of vestibular therapy, the vitamins or my right side finally compensating for the left, who knows.  Unfortunately, the tinnitus remains the same.  I'm not giving up yet -- I will continue to take it and will see what happens.  You might as well try it.

good luck - hope things quiet down for you.

Ronnie

I am also 2 1/2 years post radiosurgery and have constant tinnitus, but I'm used to it now and pretty much don't even think about it until the volume changes, then it drives me crazy.  But valium and ativan do help a bit when it gets disturbing.  And just for your information, stress makes it worse, trust me.
Left AN dx. 11/05 Linac radiosurgery 01/06 Burlington, VT for a 9mm x 5mm tumor.  No necrosis yet (2 yrs. post-op).  Multiple post radiosurgery complications, some permanent.  Have radio-oncologist here.  Now see Dr. McKenna, Mass. Eye & Ear Instit., Boston for flollow-up care as my main An doctor.

Stress definitely makes it worse.  Prior to my AN surgery my ENT advised me to take Arches Tinnitus Relief Formula which contains Ginkgo Biloba Leaf Extract 240 mg, Zinc 15 mg and Garlic Bulb 300 mg.  They have a web site   www.tinnitusformula.com    if anyone is interested.  I stopped taking it two weeks before surgery but have just started taking it again.

My tinnitus sounds completely different now than it did before surgery.

The whole noise thing is almost degree course in itself
- remember 5-10 million US citizens get it - and they dont have an AN ????
Antionette did some useful stuff around diet etc
- and it seems to make a difference
Basically try to reduce the caffine levels
and fewer fizzy drinks
In terms of medication - anything that calms a bit
like St Johns Wort seems to be worth a try
but there are other herbal answers

Best Regards
Tony

http://www.nutritionexpress.com/vitamins+minerals/vitamin+c/lindberg+bioflavonoid+complex+250+tablets.aspx

This is cheap, and has helped some people I know over on the menieres.org forum.  It didn't do a thing for me, but several people found it helpful.
