Best follow up physician? similar post surgical complications?
« on: February 25, 2009, 07:46:41 pm »
My husband had a craniotomy Jan 14 to remove 10mm AN..successful surgery.  BUT had epidural hemotoma four hours after surgery (went unconscious in recovery room and was rushed to OR) so had to be re-opened to stop bleeding, this surgery not quite successful and had a third surgery less then twelve hours later.  Still not exactly sure what all happened?  In any case, was expecting 6-8 week recovery and now right at 5 weeks still have horrible headaches, pain at site, double vision, hearing loss (did not have hearing loss post op..lost it 10 days post op) and horrible balance.  Recent follow up with neruosurgeon and ENT said on track and normal, and shouldn't need pain meds.  But that recovery a little longer due to additional surgery.  Since we went out of town for the surgery (Duke) we asked who should follow us locally and was told primary care??  Seeing a great vestibular therapist but tired of being told "as soon as inflammation goes down all will be better"  are we missing something? ANd there are  still many meds..so who manages care?  and has anyone else experienced such a post surgical complication ( neurosurgeon said he has never seen it)?
Retrosigmoid Craniotomy for 2cm AN 1/14/09, 2 more surgeries to stop life-threatening epidural bleed on 1/14 and 1/15. Surgery at Duke- Dr. Allan Friedman and Dr. Takanori Fukushima.
