Cracked BAHA
« on: May 03, 2011, 01:32:16 pm »
Just read keithk's post about his cracked BAHA and the seal peeling off the back. I sent my BAHA in about 3 weeks ago for the rear seal peeling off, and got it back in one week. This morning I looked at the body of my BP100, and saw a small crack on the side of it. It went back to Cochlear this morning for repair, and I'll keep you updated. Will a Ponto Pro fit my abutment? If this is going to be an issue, I need to look down the road. The warranty is two years, and I really don't want to run into this problem at the end of my warranty.

Oh great. The crack is in the very close to the mounting screws. I wonder if they screws are over torqued. I just hope cochlear solves the problem. I don't want to keep sending it in for repair.

The crack is on the side of the main case, right in line with the piece that plugs into the abutment. It runs from the back to the front. It has nothing to do with the screws. When I sent it in, Cochlear replaced the case. I have no idea why it cracked. I also called, and the Ponto will not fit my abutment.

James -

when the BP100 was first introduced there was a big issue with cracked cases.  All the BP100s that were returned to Cochlear because of a cracked case were replaced free of charge and that was the end of the problem.  Depending on when your BP100 was ordered from Cochlear it may be part of the first introduction.

I got my BP100 in April 2010 and have never had a cracked case.  Everyone I know who had a cracked case that received a new BP100 has not encountered the problem again.

Hope that puts your mind at ease a little bit.

I got mine in July 2010, but I don't know when it was produced. Today is day 2, and I really, really, really miss it. The lady I talked to at Cochlear was a 10 on the phone...no complaint on customer service. MY WIFE IS HAVING TO TALK REALLY LOUD SO I CAN HEAR HER...and she is already tired of that.

Hope your processor is returned to you soon - or that you get a brand new one.   I'm lucky enough to have a spare (my Divino) if my BP100 is "in the shop".

Cochlear may have some issues with their products, but you can't fault them in the customer service department.  From everything I know and have heard about them, they give 120% when it comes to service.

How will you attach it to your Cochlear abutment? I spoke with the Ponto Pro people yesterday, and they said it will not fit my abutment.

Good! Now you can give us a "road test" of both products.

My BAHA was just sent back to me from Cochlear.  They checked for cracks, which are evidently common.  No cracks found.  My audiologist will reprogram Friday.  Hoping this is my last go around with repairs.  It's getting old!
