There was a study done at Beth Israel Boston by Dr. Anand Mahadevan regarding hearing retention.  I was part of that study (my MRI image is in the study as well).  BI is reporting 100% hearing retention with CK.   I had 30Gy over 5 days. Just FYI.

Phyl

  I believe there was a study a few years back which gave CK a 5% advantage in hearing retention.

FWIW, I've seen more than one study that gave CK about a 10% advantage in hearing retention: 70%, vs 60% for GK.

Best wishes to all,

Excerpt from the updated Stanford CK study issued in 2011 following 383 patients up to 10 years

RESULTS: During a median follow-up duration of 3.6 years (range, 1-10 years), 10 tumors
required additional treatment, resulting in 3- and 5-year Kaplan-Meier tumor control
rates of 99% and 96%, respectively. Five-year tumor control rate was 98% for tumors ,
3.4 cm3. Neurofibromatosis type 2–associated tumors were associated with worse tumor
control (P = .02). Of the 200 evaluable patients with pre-SRS serviceable hearing AQ : 2
(Gardner-Robertson grade 1 and 2), the crude rate of serviceable hearing preservation
was 76%. Smaller tumor volume was associated with hearing preservation (P = .001).
There was no case of post-SRS facial weakness. Eight patients (2%) developed trigeminal
dysfunction, half of which was transient.

Hi Paul;

   Seems a head CT's radiation is about equivalent to 300 - 400 chest x-rays? There is an increased incidence of brain tumors in general. Not just AN. They want to blame it all on cell phones?!

I believe the radiation caused by the 3D xray positioning in CK is about the same as a head CT scan
