Count me in - surgery scheduled
« on: September 21, 2009, 06:31:57 pm »
My wife and I travelled to LA for a consult with Dr. Brackmann.  After the consult I scheduled my surgery.  Wednesday, November 4th.

Please keep your fingers crossed and, if you are the praying kind, feel free to add me to your list!

Dennis -

I am the praying kind and I'll definitely add you to my list.

Congratulations on making your treatment decision - I know from experience how extremely difficult that can be.

Did you put your surgery date on the AN Calendar?

I don't actually "make" trouble..just kind of attract it, fine tune it, and apply it in new and exciting ways

Dennis ~

Congratulations on your decision, probably one of the more difficult decisions anyone has to make in life.  I'll keep you in my prayers - and, what's more, I've entered your surgery date on the AN Treatment Calendar. http://my.calendars.net/an_treatments/d04/11/2009?authenticate=&display=M&style=B

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Hey, Dennis!  Glad to know things went well in LA and that you've made your decision.  Which surgical approach did you and Dr. Brackmann decide on?  Know you'll do great out there!

Cindy - we decided on Mid-Fossa.  The overwhelming factors are my hearing and size of the AN.  It is still very good and we both felt it is worth making an attempt to save.

Thanks for adding it to the calendar Jim.

DR,
The hard part is over- just making that decision. You picked the right place and doctor of course. ;)
It will be here before you know it. My prayers for a smooth transition into "postie land." Your tumor is small so should be a smooth sailing (other than the first couple days after surgery of course).
Any questions about anything, let us know. If you are  or are not the exercising type, it's helpful to exercise as much as possible before surgery.
Peace to you,
Maureen

I hope you have some sense of peace at this point.  You can put the responsibility in your doctors' hands now.  Ask questions, but take a break from the forum if needed.  Don't dwell.  Take a deep breath  :)  This adventure definitely puts you on the prayer list.  Take this time to relax and think about other things.  Alicia

Dennis -

nice blog.

Mid fossa will give you a great chance of saving your hearing.  You're in good hands; I'm confident things will go well.

Chin up!

Dennis, best of luck! Dr. Brackmann was rooting around in my head just three months ago and I'm feeling great!

Facial nerve hemangioma. Probable dx 7/2008 confirmed 4/2009. Combo middle fossa and translab to remove the blood vessel malformation and snip ruined hearing and balance nerves by Drs. House and Brackmann @ House 6/2009. Doing great!
