6 month post op follow up
« on: December 09, 2009, 04:36:43 pm »
Hey Everyone!

I just had my 6 month follow up with my doctors yesterday to reivew the progress of my facial nerve.  They said im actually ahead of schedule!! The doctors were pleased with the progress I have made.  I have symetrical resting tone, and what they call maxillary movement on my AN side.  I no longer use eye drops and they were baffled as to why.  They said there is an 85% to 90% chance I will be a grade 1 or 2 within 6 months- and may continue to improve at an endpoint of 18 months! They did say my smile would not be perfect. They said I dont need a facial specialist and I can do my own excersises at home. Anyone have a good site that will help with this?

Thanks,

Darren

Darren ~

My sincere congratulations on the fabulous news!  I'm delighted to learn that you're progressing so rapidly.  Well done!

I don't have any suggestions for home exercises but I'm confident that you'll receive the information you're seeking, soon, as others read your latest post.

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Life is not the way it's supposed to be. It's the way it is.  The way we cope with it is what makes the difference.

Great news!
Maybe you can have your facial nerve talk to my facial nerve...  :P
I just got a sheet of exercises from my SLP so as soon as I get a second I'll type them up for you.

Your news makes me happy, Darren.

My facial nerve specialist also predicted an 18-month endpoint, but I don't think I am done healing yet.

great news, the bellspalsyinformation site is really good, they have a physio on there who writes under the "Treatment Section" his name is Todd, there are good exercises on there and also a disagram of the facial nerves.
