Cathy is now a "Postie"
« on: August 26, 2008, 08:26:09 pm »
Well, I made it. Holy Moly!

Staying at my parents house this week. The one tip that I never saw (but doesn't mean it's not here somewhere) is that Peppermints help a LOT with the nausia.

Since I've only been out 2 days, I haven't even seen what Tara posted for me when I was gone, but surgery was only 5 hrs and he said he saved my hearing. They will do a hearing test at a later date to see how much of a hearing loss I do have. No facial issues.

Balance issues of course, but I seem to be making progress each day on that, too (well, except when I passed out this morning. Was watching my mom take off my dressing. Guess that didn't sit too well with the whole new balance network in my head.  :-[)

I am being careful, taking it easy but also doing the exercises the pt talked to me about and my walks of course and working on eating (it's amazing how much no food for 5 days does to you). just taking things a bit at a time.

Thanks for being there for me everyone.

love,
cathy

Cathy -

IMO "Holy Moly" pretty much sums it up ;)

Wish I would have known about the peppermints when I had my surgery; I had nausea for days and all the meds in the world didn't make a dent in it  :P

Tara did a wonderful job of updating us, and if I remember correctly, she did say your surgery was shorter than anticipated and that your hearing was saved (yea!)

As you say, balance will take some time, but daily progress is very encouraging.

Thanks for the update and keep up the good work  :)

Cathy!  So glad you're back and so now I guess you're a posting postie?  Yes, Holy Moly is the mantra.  Mine was ever so slightly different but can't be printed here lest I get smacked.  I'm so happy you are home and recovering.  BTW, ginger root (don't eat it, just suck on a piece of fresh ginger) is extremely effective for nausea.  Hope it passes soon.
All the best,

Hey Cathy,
Congrats on making it to the other side.  One heck of a trip, eh?  Glad things went well.  I somehow missed Tara's thread, even though I was keeping an eye out for it.  Keep getting better, and rest when you need to.

Hi Cathy,

Welcome to the other side! Sounds like you are doing great - and that's just at 5 days post-op! And since you said you are "being careful, taking it easy...just taking things a bit at at time," you're already well on your way to a smooth recovery!

Wishing you all the best - and congratulations on saving your hearing!

Welcome home, Cathy!  So glad you're there and on your way to recovery.  And what great news about your hearing!!

Good tip about the peppermint from you and the ginger root from Marci...that could be very helpful to folks.

We're going to hold you to your promise to take it easy!

Cathy~
So glad you are home & doing well.  When I had the T3 & was VERY nauseous, my MIL told me about ginger capsules that I took & they really helped.  Dave got them at Whole Foods in Baltimore b/c that was close, but I'm sure you can get them at any health food store.  It sure was easy just to pop a couple in!

Am feeling so much better! Went to a massage theripist yesterday. That helped the headaches and the tightness in the neck so much. Walking outside is getting so much easier. The last walk I did today I even walked without having to hold onto my mom's arm. We figure we walked the equivalent of 8 blocks tonight.
