Right sided AN 2.7cm at last MRI.  Hearing loss/facial numbness.  Translab scheduled March 11th 2009.  Translab at Royal Melbourne Hospital, Australia successful!  Total tumour removed, SSD, no facial issues, numbness has left the building, balance issues but they'll get better and I'm loving life!

Hey Bob,
Glad you are feeling well.  Can't believe you mowed the lawn a few days ago!!  Still woozy here in Merrimack, NH following surgery.  I've had similar eye issues as well, though they seem to be dissipating slowly but surely.  Face is still pretty lopsided. All things considered, I'm happy with my progress as you seem to be with yours.

Diagnosed 3/09 1.1cm tumor - 4/17/09 - had grown to 1.2
Age 61 - married with three adult kids
MidFossa surgery completed June 22nd
Mass General/Mass Eye and Ear - Martuza and McKenna
The tumor has grown back.  Now working with Mass General.  Dr. Loeffler feels I am not a candidate for proton beam.

4.5 cm AN diagnosed 5/06.  Retrosigmoid surgery 6/06.  Follow-up FSR completed 10/06.  Tumor shrinkage & necrosis noted on last MRI.  Life is good.

Glad to hear you're recovering quickly, Bob! That's especially terrific that your balance is better than it was before surgery. Think of how great it's going to be when you get out on the water again!

Thanks all....snuck back on the water today. Just a easy 1 mile paddle on flat water with Sue and the family. Big family get together at my sisters house in Falmouth. Brought 4 boards since everyone wanted to go out. Sue wasn't too happy with me but I coated a cotton ball with A&D ointment and stuck it in my ear..put a big waterproof bandage over my ear. Never fell in so it didn't get tested...came close a couple times. Only problem I had was when we turned around back into the wind...I had to paddle with my eyes closed often so that I could close my left eye...talk about a vestibular challenge. If the doc says I'm good to go on Monday I may need to wear a patch while paddling....I'll be the 1st standup pirate.... ;)

24 days, surgery to paddleboard. Not that anyone is counting. :)

I think going a mile without falling off is an impressive first outing. I'm pretty sure I would not be able to do that. You still have a solid month to gear up for the big event in August. I'm betting you make it.

Congratulations on your recovery, Bob. You are back now.  ;)

Hehe...we thinks alike...we're headed out shopping shortly and goggles are on the list. Eye is bugging me today so I need to be careful. Once I got over the 1st little wobbles my balance was great. I tested it a bit with some quick turns and short sprints and felt really good.

Got the official go ahead to get back on the water from Dr. McKenna today....yeehaa! Have to protect the eye and use the cotton ball in my ear for another week. I'm going to try and paddle almost everyday between now and August 8th and I'm going to enter a 1 mile race on August 2nd. I'm feeling great...I drove in to Boston today! Of course I learned to drive there so that isn't as big a feat as it might sound to some... ;D. Now if only the eye/face would recover things would be great. Actually...I'll just settle for being able to tightly close my eye. I'd prefer not to have to wear protection when I get back to surfing.

We brought in two huge apple cakes in to MGH and one to MEEI today to say thanks for the great care. I'm so thankfull for the great skills of my doctors and the extraordinary care I've received from the nurses and staff at both hospitals.
