dental work and AN
« on: February 22, 2007, 05:46:43 pm »
Hi,

I'm very glad to find this forum and this association.  Reading some of the posts reassures me that I am not alone and that there is great kindness here.

I am a wait-and-watcher, finishing my second year since diagnosis.  Next MRI in March. I am 61 and in great shape otherwise.

I have a 6mm AN, stable in size so far.

I chose wait-and-watch because it is small, so far, and because my ENT thinks there is more danger to my facial nerve in a procedure than there is in wait-and-watching, if I can get away with it.  We'll see.

And, I've had some big successes with homeopathy for other problems and my homeopath seems quite optomistic about treating it.  And, in fact, once we started homeopathy, the hearing loss stopped getting worse, the tinnitus became much less loud, the fullness in the area went away, and then there was the 1 year MRI with no growth.  Also, I get this zzzzzzip thing, especially when I lay down and go to sleep that travels from my AN to my brain or something.  It really relaxed that first year too.

In August, I started having a new symptom.  I love to sing and, at first, just one note would make a very unpleasant zzzzzzzz in my AN.  By now, my voice does it a lot, even just talking.  Very depressing because singing is a big comfort to me.  Sometimes it was almost painful.

And, it's worrysome because fullness is back and the zipping at night is back.

OK, so I'm thinking again about a procedure.

But ... I realized that if I hold my jaw and sing, no zzzzzzz.  And then I realized that if I touch the two top back teeth when I sing, no zzzzzz.  And, I could feel electricity coming into my finger from those two teeth.

Finally I got my dentist to pull the wisdom tooth which had a big gold crown and would really vibrate when I sing.  The noise of the zzzzz immediately dimished by 85%.  It happens just as often, but less loud and at least I can hear my own singing now.  But 15% left is still awful for singing.

The next tooth, which also vibrates like heck, and seemed to be just as problematic looks to be porcelin.  So I was discouraged because porcelin ought not have electromagnetic properties.  Well, I asked my dentist and NO, it is just a porcelin shell baked on a gold crown!  More gold, more heavy electromagnetic material vibrating.

Hopefully replacing that crown with non-metal will help a lot.

My final degree is in theoretical radio astronomy so I have (or I used to have) a good understanding of electromagnetism.  It seems and feels to me as if my rattling electromagnetic teeth are charging up my nerves on that side and excess charge is collecting in the AN, which is acting like a capacitor, holding the charge.  When I'm falling asleep, it discharges into my brain -- real creepy.

And, five years ago, when the dentist put in the gold crown on the wisdom tooth, I started experiencing terrible eczema in that right ear only (the AN ear).  At the time, I asked the dentist if it could be related to all the metals in my teeth.  He didn't think so.  He sent me to a specialist who didn't know, and had never seen anything like it before, like the terrible eczema in and on one ear.

At the time, I thought there would be hell to pay for all this, but I was powerless to do anything about it.

So, my dear new friends and fellow AN sufferers, please check your teeth on your AN side.  Do you have lots of metal back there?  Is this possibly a contributing cause?

What do you think?

Interesting theory but I only have composites in my teeth.  Wouldn't it be a blessing to only have to change a crown or a filling out to fix any an complications.. .....awwww what a wonderful dream!

Let us know how your next mri goes!  May you continue to sing!  My son begs me not to sing  LOL :-*

Marilyn:

Thanks for the input.  Very informative.  Your theory regarding your 'electromagnetic teeth' transmitting a charge into your AN tumor, generating a buzzing sound is intriguing.  I have absolutely no idea whether the theory is valid, but the fact that removing the wisdom tooth with the gold crown gave you relief is telling.

I have very little 'mouth metal' and no problems with buzzing, etc, as you suffered from.  However, I'm sure others do and your post may be of help to those folks who may have similar buzzing sounds in their AN-affected ear that might be tooth-related (i e. metal crowns) and that they've no explanation for, until now.

Hi Marylin, just curious, what type of homeopathic treatment did you follow? After reading tons of refernces about Green tea properties (which is known to  prevent tumor growth and has antiflammatory properties ) started drinking it  on a daily basis.   I didn't have any tumor growth for 1.5 years before my AN  treatment and my hearing had improved about 5 dB in the mid and high frequencies (my doctors confirmed that). Even after radiation I keep drinking it and it appears that my tinnitus and fullness sensation are decreased.

Thanks for your responses.

So, no one has big gold crowns on back teeth on the AN side, eh?  Interesting.

But, does anyone have buzzing stuff with their own voice?

The buzzing actually got worse!  Not loud buzzing, but a much bigger physical sensation of buzzing, and in the tongue and whole area. And I got way dizzy again, and the fullness came back, after removing the wisdom tooth.

The next 2 teeth are also gold crowns covered in porcelin.  I don't feel any electricity with my finger like I did.   So I'm thinking that, missing the bare gold crown to ground some electricity toward the mouth, it's all going into the nervous system, or something.

But, I have a break with classes so I quit talking Thursday, and all the new symptoms went away immediately.

Tomorrow both the other two gold crowns are being replaced with composite.

If this doesn't help it, I'll be measuring my options for surgery.  So, I'm a bit nervous.

Reading success stories here sure helps.

Thanks for the support.

Oh yes, Pablo, I'm sorry I can't remedy in my medicine cabinet was the first one, which was the one that took my original symptoms way down.  It really isn't so relevent because I know there are a handful of remedies known to help neuroma.  You can search "neuroma homeopathy".  My homeopath weighs all he knows about me to decide which one to use, so you don't want to just use what I used.

Thanks for your comments.

Hey Marylin, that sounds kinda like my story; I had a gold/porcelain crown 'installed' on the left side (my AN side), probably 12 yrs ago?  Anyway, after my AN started squeezing out my hearing , I started to develop eczema in my ear; really nice.  I hadn't even considered that the gold might be doing it.  I do have other fillings back there, though, some of them metal-based.

I found the capacitor theory interesting.  Has Radio Shack tried calling you yet (lol)?  Pretty weird what can possibly be going on inside the skin.

Hi Marilyn: I had all porcelin fillings back in the 80's ( last grab of dental work on my dad's insurance policy prior to graduation from college) so sorry can't help you there.. But nothing surprises me anymore.  I think if you think there is a cause, probably is the case.  I have found ulitmately especially in our AN world, we are our own best advocates.

Since you are in Mountain View- go talk to Dr. Stephen Chang at Stanford. He's great- he can probably zapp your bugger for you.  Also you might want to go to Stanford for dentistry if your insurance covers it... (Post CK treatment, I am a BIG Stanford fan)! Heck if my local ENT can't get my congestion solved, which is how I ultimately got diagosed with my tumor, I'll probably go to Stanford- it's worth the drive for me.   Good luck- Annie
