Here in Germany they said if I have surgery they will also use belly fat.
Its the best thing they have to seal the hole, and your body won't reject it.

Belly fat left side for me with the first surgery, but it was packed in my eustachion (sp) tube.  The second surgery (retro) they used bone cement because I expressed concern about headaches, and have truly not experienced but one or two that Tylenol can handle.

As far as the incision area--they put back the bone flap and secured it with 2 titanium plates held by  small screws or pins which have healed with alot of scar tissue around them. They did a fat harvest from my stomach and I guess they stuffed that  in my head where the AN used to be, although I don't know why since it was mostly intracanacular and not shifting the brain at all. Hmmmm......

I had the fat removed.  It has been a few years and my stomach remains flat there, but there is a scar.
Please tell me what bone cement is?

Capt Deb,

Can you define intracanacular, I looked it up in the medical dictionary because it was on my MRI and it came up not known.  My MRI said "Intracanicular extension is felt to be present"  what does that mean.  Very new to all of this.  Thank you for all your help!  Still trying to digest all of this.

I don't know what bone cement is. My doctors replaced my skull plate with 4 titanuim screws. I thought they used fat but they said no since the plate fit back into place.

Bone cement and titanium rivets may be used to repair the opening in the bone.

Hi,

I'm a fat head too! Doctors put the fat in then put the bone flap back and finished up with 3 titanium bands and screws to keep my head together. I agree with Leapyrtwins, my doctors used the left side because your appendix in on the right side and they believed that if I was ever in a accident and couldn't speak for myself the emergency doctors would believe that I had had my appendix removed so thats why they take the fat from the left side. At least that is what I was told.   Ann

Just a thought here.  Could there be a correlation to fat and headaches?

Don't know about a correlation btw fat & headaches.  I'm a fat head and I have only been experiencing the occasional headache; and I'm not sure it's related to my surgery.

I have the bone cement and no headaches.  But bone cement doesn't seem to be very common I'm seeing.

Ok, my doctors must not have thought about a time when I couldn't speak for myself.  My fat "removal" is on my right side.  I figured that my AN was on my right side and they took the fat from my right side they wanted me to be lopsided!  I didn't have these headaches until after the surgery so maybe mine are from the fat.  It does bad things to your heart and kidneys so why not give you headaches to boot?  Makes sense to me.
