World first to cure deafness and balance
« on: April 11, 2007, 07:57:51 pm »
Hi all,

Well the boys and girls at a Perth hospital in Australia have just successfully been able to grow human vestibular supporting cells; inner ear cells that support the survival of cells controlling balance, movement and orientation.

This was a news story last night (11th April 2007). I am about to email the Professor to find out more details but looks like there is some hope for us.

I would say that we would be looking at a fix for Balance first - 2 years, then deafness following that.

Whether its applicable to us AN"ers, I don't know but I will find out more detail and post accordingly.

cheers

Oh, my gosh! :o  I might be able to stop worrying that this might  be a problem for my kids' generation anyway.

Tell me more!!!!!!!!  If I could quit falling and breaking things and bruising all over like I went a couple of rounds with Joe Lewis I would be happy!  To think that my kids and grandkids would not have to go through this would be more than prayers answered.  Thanks for sharing, Laz.  I'm anxious to hear what the professor has to say further on the subject.

Wahooooo!  Sounds promising and hopefully the wait won't be too terribly long as it can be with stem cell research.  YESSSSS!
