Post GK Effects - timeline question
« on: February 09, 2007, 04:03:23 pm »
I am 5 1/2 months post-surgery for removal of the cyctic part of my AN and 3 months post-GK.  Suddenly, as of today, my facial  weakness (almost non-existant until now -  it was there, but very slight) has become much worse - drooping mouth, can't make "rasberries" with my mouth anymore and eye feels funny and won't shut 100%.  Is this a normal occurance this far out?  I would love to hear anyone else's experiiences, thoughts, etc.  thank you!!!!!

Hi Mar50,
Has there been any improvement in your facial weakness since your original post?  I am assuming it is just a temporary situation :) Do you know if the problem was caused by the surgery or the GK?

They tell me it's from the GK, hopefully temporary, although it's been a week of hi-dose steroids with little imrpovement.  I think I was just a little naive in assuming I had "escaped" facial problems other than very minor ones post-surgery.

AN - the gift that keeps giving!   ;)

I was told that temporary facial problems could occur several months after treatment. The main reason I am choosing GK is because the neurosurgeon I consulted with told me that surgery would definately damage my facial nerve.
I do hope you see some improvement soon, I'm sure those steroids are not fun.

I wish you the VERY best on your upcoming treatment.  I'm sure you will have every success, sounds like you have excellent/thoughtful care.  And just knowing about the possibilties ahead of time can be nothing but helpful.  Although call yor dr. for any questions, I sometimes hesitate on that count, to my disadvantage.  Take care!!!!!
