Experiences with Kaiser Redwood City CA for AN surgery
« on: November 16, 2022, 05:27:31 pm »
I would like to know if anyone has had any experience with Kaiser Redwood City CA for surgical removal of AN and which doctors performed the surgery. I have had radiosurgery in the beginning of year but MRI shows growth, 1.4 cm x 1.9 cm x 1.3 cm to 1.7 cm x 2.3 cm.

Hi gweb!  And thanks for your first post on the forums!

To see the experience others have had with Kaiser Redwood City, go to the Home page (it won't work from this page), and find the Search field on the right side.  Type in "Redwood City" and then click the button.  When I did it, I found more than 40 posts regarding others' experience with Kaiser Redwood City, CA.

Other people reading this can do the same thing to find comments regarding a certain specialist or a certain city or a certain medical center.  It is often helpful to read what other people are saying.

Best wishes on your continued journey!

Hello gweb-

I am in a similar situation with growth (but at the 3 year mark) after Gamma.

Translab is schedule for mid-January at Mayo in MN.  Fingers crossed for full removal, but one never knows, especially with radiation prior.

Wishing you every success, and know you are not alone.

Hi Bonnie,

Thank you for reaching out. I didn't mention that I had a single dose of radiation about 5 years ago and thought I was in the clear. Now that I have had 2 sessions of radiation I am a little worried it will be more difficult to remove. I had facial numbness for a few weeks, fortunately it only lasted about 30 seconds and only happened a few times a day. It seems to have stopped but my balance feels off and have leg weakness. Not sure if that is from the AN. How did you make your decision to have the surgery? I wish I had more information on the surgeon and how many surgeries he has performed. He said he does 1 a week but for how long. Did you interview many surgeons before you made your decision? I wish you all the best with your surgery and recovery.

Sorry Gail, I’m just seeing this as the day of surgery unfolds.

I went to Mayo, where Dr Link does both gamma and surgery.

My understanding is tumor appeared to be faster growing so I was given the highest dosages of radiation. The fact that it is growing indicates that it likely is resistant to radiation treatment.

I talked to Dr Link and I decided it’s better to just try to get this out. Today is the big day!

Wishing you the best in your treatment choice.

Thanks for asking for an update!

I was shelved away at 7:45 and got out about 2:30.

Today 6 :30 pm is the first time I feel like looking at my phone.  Things went great, they believe they removed all tumor! ( happy dance to come later when I am more stable). Dr Link And Dr Neff and team have been wonderful.

Again thanks for your concern!
