Searching for hearing aid that is not inserted in ear.
« on: August 06, 2019, 03:09:18 pm »
Hi - does anyone know of a hearing aid that is not inserted (at all) into ear canal? I had a CROS which worked fine, but I have been diagnosed with eczema in both ears and can't wearing standard hearing aids due to itching, weeping and constantly needing to remove  them to put medicine in ears.  My audiologist didn't mention any to me when I spoke to him about my problem. I don't want to have implants

Hi. Yes, I just purchased the Adhear bone conduction device by Med-El. I tried both the Phonak Cros and the Adhear over the past two months. My surgery was in January. I have one perfect ear, and one completely deaf ear. The Adhear is similar to BAHA, but it is not implanted in the skull. Instead, it sticks on to the bone behind the bad ear and sends the vibrations to the good ear. For me, neither the CROS nor the Adhear was perfect, but I decided that the CROS gave me too much amplification and I preferred the more natural and balanced sound from the Adhear. I also didn't like wearing a device in both ears. Adhear is pretty new in the US. My audiologist had never fitted one before and had the sales rep come and assist. If you google it, there are some videos on Youtube about it.
3.2 cm AN (right side) diagnosed in 10/2018
Only symptom: mild hearing loss
TransLab surgery 1/2/19 @MUSC w/ Drs. Lambert & Patel. Sliver of tumor left.
Rt. Side facial paralysis (nerve stretched), tumor was "sticky", SSD, getting platinum weight implant 6/13/19
Doing fine otherwise!

I bought aftershokz earphones (around $100). you can get an app to use it as an aid to hearing. My tumor is on the left side- and my hearing is still ok there (6 months after radiosurgery)---my right ear is almost deaf (why??-been to 7 or 8 specialists who never really figured it out)....and the aftershokz earphones really allow me to hear music bettter in STEREO. I will try it with a hearing aid app in the future.
