MRI Frequency

I'm interested in how often others have MRI's to check for regrowth following surgery. I've had yearly MRI's for the first two years post op. to check a residual portion left behind to preserve the facial nerve. The MRI's have shown possible reduction in the residual size. I'm coming up on three years and my surgeon recommends skipping this year and going to a two year check interval. He said he will write an RX for this year if that's what I prefer. I would like some help weighing out the pros and cons. Should I be concerned about the "with contrast" exposure?  Other than that, I don't see any downside to checking yearly other than cost (cost should not be a factor). Any feedback and experience is appreciated.

February 2016- 4.6 cm removed at Sloan Kettering NY by Dr. Gutin and Dr. Selesnick.  Residual left behind to preserve the facial nerve. Two year MRI indicates a shrinking of the residual. Three year MRI indicates no change in size.

Hi Surfer, I had a one year followup MRI and a 5 year MRI suggested since no residual tumor was left / apparent. If it was me & there was residual, I would want an annual MRI for a couple of years or get a second opinion to put my mind at ease.

If in doubt, go for an MRI. No need for contract. This way there is no downside except for your time (and maybe some cost).
