selective neurolysis
« on: February 16, 2018, 02:50:14 pm »
Hi all,
I'll be getting a consultation with Dr.Azizzadeh soon for this surgery. He's the only Dr. In the world that does it. He actually pioneered it. Basically he maps the facial nerves and turns some off and on. Rewires your nerves. Just amazing. I have had a partial smile since my AN surgery in 2008 and wish I could have a full smile again.
I'm worried about the cost since I doubt insurance will pay but you never know. I'll keep everyone posted.

If you are interested in additional services, or if they suggest some, see if they can give you a breakdown on how much the different services are. I had a consult last year for selective neurolysis, and we looked at adding an asymetrical facelift along with some work around my eye to address synkinesis there. They came back with one lump sum for the package, so it would have been nice to know how much it would have cost if I had eliminated one or two procedures. Also, do you live in California? Pricing doesn't include hotel nights in the Beverly Hills area, and you need to stay long enough for follow-up care or to have any stitches removed, etc.  I'm still intriqued, but I guess I chickened out for now.

Make sure to think hard about any questions you might have. I thought I was prepared, but I thought of several as soon as we hung up the phone (Skype actually). Best of luck!

I've met with the doctor and discussed my options. He agrees I'm a perfect candidate for this procedure.

The cost of the surgery is 35k - this is with insurance coverage, but my plan with Cigna does not provide coverage for this due to it being out of network. They said around 40k with no insurance coverage at all which is weird to me.

I was referred to a specialist to attempt to get Cigna to pay but we'll see. 35-40k is a price to pay, but I feel it's almost worth it.

I appreciate the update. Just curious, do you know how percentage of symmetry improvement is it expected? I heard that the platisma is cut during this process. How long is needed to be completely recovered? Any therapy required after the surgery?. Sorry for so many questions.

I didn't ask percentage no. You are correct regarding that. I guess that helps release it from pulling the smile down. He said recovery is not bad, be out of work 1-2 weeks with a few days in an adjacent hotel.

How long was your wait for a consultation?  Is he booked up for a long time?

I had selective neurolysis surgery on November 1 by Dr. Babak Azizzadeh in Beverly Hills.  It was a life changing decision and I am so glad that I made the choice to have this surgery.

I am in loop with selective neurolysis procedure.
I had first consultancy with Dr. Babak. Got appointment after a month from my contacting date. :)
I put my case in front of him (Parotid gland tumor removed 22 years ago) had partial facial paralysis & skynesis.

Kristena is right please do ask the prices for individual procedure because the quotation i got was also a lump sum amount. which was around $95k  :-[

I guess i have to drop out few procedures and stick to S.Neurolysis + Facial fat transfer only, as this is way beyond my range. And he is the best in the world for Neurolysis procedure.

hotel stay, hospital fee, medical tests & medicine fee are not included.

Anyone who has done this Selective Neurolysis from him please guide me about the approx expenses of hospital stay fee & medical tests and medicine fee . how many days it needs to stay in hospital ? Any prior or post medical tests are there?

I see some people have misinformation. There are two doctors in NY and one in Ohio that do this procedure. Azizzadeh revised it however, he did not 'pioneer' it. Also, other surgeons work with insurance.
Do some research and you will find others.
I have insecurities...of course...but I don't hang out with anyone who points them out to me!
