Has anyone else experienced this with hemi-facial spasms?
« on: May 03, 2013, 01:53:35 pm »
Monday evening I was taking PEG-3350 with Electrolytes per doctor's orders (like I would drink that stuff without doctor's orders? YUKE!).  About 45 minutes into taking this stuff I had one massive facial spasm that lasted better than 45 minutes.  It was so bad I sent a text message to my oncologist asking if this medicine could cause such a spasm, he said he didn't think so.  I was almost to the point of going to the ER when I decided to take a 5mg Valium & do some deep breathing.  It litterally felt like something short circuited in my head!  ???

Now, four days later I have had only two very mild spasms since then.  I have taken 2.5 mg of Valium each day but normally that doesn't affect the spasms.

I've been doing research and I do think that the electrolytes caused this.

Has anyone else experienced a "massive" spasm or heard of a "massive" spasm before?

I'm almost afraid to talk about it, to jinx the fact that I haven't really had any more spasms since last Monday night.  I know, be thankful (which I am), take the blessing and run.   :D

I've always thought that drinking that stuff (Polyethylene Glycol) was like drinking automobile anti-freeze (Ethylene Glycol).

Sounds similar.

Side effects of an electrolyte imbalance from too much PEG 3350:

Muscle spasm, twitching, weakness, confusion, numbness, blood pressure changes, convulsions, irregular heartbeat, seizures and lethargy.

Report your reaction to the doctor.

I read all that on Livestrong which is what makes me think it was the PEG-3350

Have made a note to discuss with oncologist when I see him in June; too late now to mention it to the doctor that prescribed - it's a done deal now.

However, I will NEVER take that stuff again, trust me.   >:(
